    Default Long Time No See!

    Good day everyone,
I joined SRP about 15 years ago. This was back when it was Straight Razor Place. It seems there has been some shenanigans since then. (What is this “Sharp Razor Palace” nonsense?)
Back then (when I was a lone wolf) I discovered the extreme satisfaction of taking some time out of my day to slow down and shave like a gentleman….now with a wife keeping me busy building kitchen cabinets and all sorts of other melon projects (get it…Honey-Do?) and two little boys, I can barely find time to take a hot shower!
Throughout that time I picked up a few really great straights from this places amazing members. I learned to shave, bought some really nice stones, learned to use them to keep my straights nice and keen. Now I don’t really use my razors and my stones keep my chisels nice and keen.
I’ll be selling my razors here to pass them on to someone else who will take them out to play once in a while instead of being cooped up in a box in the closet. As soon as I have permissions (again) I’ll post them. Any pointers, tips or guidelines please let me know.

    Faithful SRP-er,

    Neal

Hi again Neal! Sorry your having give up on your straight razors. Just pay you $10 bucks seller fee and away you go. Good luck with your sales!

Don’t sell them. Maybe one day in the future you’ll want to use them again. But if you can’t help yourself, I’ll keep an eye out for new sales posts.

Ah Ok. So that’s the trick. There was no fee when I thinned out my collection back in 2015.

    Thanks for the info, tintin

    Welcome back.

Yea, the site had been through a "situation" a few years ago but we're still the same old place.

Put your razors in a safe place away from tiny fingers. In another 15 years you might want to give it a go again. Stick around and maybe we can help you get that want to slow down once again.

I also took a hiatus for a year or two, but am glad I didn't get rid of all my good stuff.
I also use everything opposite of what I used to.

I used full hollows before, but I most def prefer 1/4 hollow razors and don't like full hollow that much I notice now.
I used all fancy badgers, but prefer boars now, well broken in boars, damn!
I used to use creams, but I am now a soap guy. MdC ftw!
I never got a good edge off a Coticule / BBW and was told to not use oil by some, I now use them exclusively with oil with great results.
I got 2 labelled Eschers I used exclusively, but noticed I prefer honing garnets over quartz / silica.
I used to love medium to heavy draw on my strops, I now prefer veg tanned horsehides with very little draw.

Things can change, and you gotta find the joy, but only if you want to. It took me a while.
You might regret getting rid of things, I gave away some fine Coticules and razors I regret very much.
I also noticed Coticules can be a huge PITA, hehe.

Yeah, there has been an administrative change, with the previous regime leaving and taking the name, and a new one had to be chosen, and this was similar enough that the forum could at least still be called SRP. Same cast, same scripts, same stage, same props, different producer. I was actually banned by the previous regime. I think things are much better here now. The old name lives on at a different site but it is not heavily trafficked. This site is still one of only two major players and what is now Straight Razor Place is a minor player along with three or four others.

You might want to give your blades a coat of petroleum jelly for long term storage, and hang on to your razor stuff. If you ever decide to start up again, you will be shocked at how prices can go up in only 20 short years or so.
