    Default Database Failure

Well guys.. The sites back up.. However, the DB failed and the last good backup was from October 2007..

So we've lost some posts, and anyone that registered in that time will need to re-register (sorry)..

With that being said, we're taking steps to make sure it doesn't happen again.. We'll be doing dual backups from now on..

So we've got a lot of posting to catch up on.. Better get started

P.S. Just tell your wives your busy helping up repopulate the forums...

    Thanks
    David (Send Whiskey)

Congratulations with getting SRP back in the air again.
I am quite sure most of us don't mind filling the gap of lost posts and threads!

Just consider it an early spring cleaning!

Thanks for the update David, and well done to you and anyone else who was involved in getting the site back up and running.

I'm happy to see everything is up and running. A couple of broken images here and there, but that's small stuff at this point.

David, if you're interested, I can steer you to a script that will create back-ups via a cron job. Let me know if I can help you out.

Great work getting the site back up!!

Surprising that there wasn't a good backup between now and Oct...too bad as it seems a lot of good info will be lost.

Looks like some of are PM's were lost as well

    Great Job again

I'm glad to see you guys are back up and running.

It's a shame you lost so many posts, and valuable info.

Before the Big Blackout, I went by the name of Bartmann on SRP. I joined in the first few days of November 2007. This feels like a piece of my life has just been erased. Every contribution I ever made here, every answer to questions I ever popped... All gone. I admitted that I had to swallow a few times before I re-registered again. Of course I realize fully that these things are generally no ones fault. So cheers to all the people, that must have been fairly busy the last 24 hours to get this thing up and running again.
I decided to lose my previous nickname. I wasn't all to happy about my former choice. Sounded too macho, on second thought. I decided to just go by my regular name: Bart.

    Kind Regards,
    Bart.

    On the contrary.
In this case, SRP is a non-profit site, so apart from the annoyance, no money was lost.

But for any operation who depends on the uptime of the host to make money, there will now be a game of 'pin the blame on the donkey' to see who exactly is responsible.
