Thanked: 11infrequent RSS feed updates
Hi,
Any chance the RSS feeds could be updated a little more frequently. Fore example the RSS feed for the BST was last updated yesterday.
Barney
PS the BST one should be updated every minute if I'm ever going to have a chance of getting in on the action

Thanked: 328We actually don't have any RSS feeds turned on, on our side. Are you using like a Google RSS feed? I can certainly turn them on if someones interested.. I think it's one RSS feed for each forum.. Let me konw what you'd like, and I'll reasearch further.

Thanked: 11They are turned on ... vBulletin automatically publishes RSS feeds of each forum if I point an RSS reader to :
Straight Razor Place Forums - Buy/Sell/Trade
I can get all the BST threads ... however the update frequency is awful - for example in the feed above the last update appears to have been between 7:25 and 9:26 am GMT+1
I believe they are updated by a cron job on linux machines .... not sure how it is done on windows boxes.

Thanked: 328I don't have any explicetly enabled, so whatever's running must be a default for VB.. And not showing as updating (Nothing in the cron on the server, and nothing in the cron directory for VB).
I will however turn on some today and have them updated more frequently.. Thanks for bringing my attention to this.. I'll post back in a bit with URL's.

David,
I'd love to have this feature enabled as well. I use my BlackBerry during the day more than I'm online, so up-to-date RSS feeds would help me keep up with the forums I'm helping to moderate. How frequently can these things be updated without causing problems?

I'm a big Google Reader user for RSS feeds - the weekend meetup put me behind by over a 1000 posts in feeds to which I subscribe. When I realized that the SRP feeds didn't update except every 24 hours (or maybe 12 hours), I stopped subscribing to them.
Having them enabled for more frequent updates can become bandwidth intensive. You might want to see if there is some way to shunt the feeds over to feedburner or something similar to let them take the bandwidth hit.

Thanked: 328RSS feeds seem to be updating fine, except for with Google. Google seems to be on a massive delay.. I'm going bug stomping, i guess.

Thanked: 11I guess it depends on your definition of "fine" I've tried Safari, Firefox and RSS Menu and the last update I'm seeing on the BST feed (the only one I've got subscribed at the moment as for me they are kinda useless at the moment) is at 9:03 PM (GMT +1) it is currently 10:23 PM - the "Puma Stainless" advert. Or is it that I've got too high expectations - How often should they be updating ?

Thanked: 328Very strange. I hooked up feedreader, and it updated every 30 minutes. Where Google seems to update every 12 hrs.. Still searching for that magic block of code.
