Problem would be solved if So registers with his name written in Japanese characters.

Well in the interest of looking for ways to circumvent the filter when speaking of the mate of the peahen..... i choose the euphemism "pussy feathers"(RIP George Carlin) to refer to that type of scale design! which appeartly the software is ok with.... this could make the prc thread more honest.

The list goes on and on, and it's impossible to capture them all.
So it'll pobably come down to white listing the couple of legit words which have one of those banned words in them.
guess i'll avoid badminton threads, then it'd be horrible in there, what with everyone talking about their favorite brand of shuttle@@@@

Serious question (I know, and I'm sorry) -- do we need this automated word censor at all? It seems redundant seeing as how others including myself have demonstrated how easy it is to circumvent. So any moral outrage is not likely to disappear. If I want to write coc-***** a little hyphen is not really going to prevent others' outrage if they're so inclined. And I really doubt anyone will try to program in absolutely every last combination and permutation of dots, dashes, asterisks and other typographical signs into the system to try to catch it.

If it's that big an issue wouldn't it just be a lot more sensible to say no swearing with or without clever little puctuation, and anyone not complying gets a mod bit.ch-slapping?

Or is that just too sensible a suggestion?

How ridiculous! Now the site has to "protect" us from profanities. Is this really needed? Sad to see this happen, really...

If you ask me, it's the only sensible suggestion!

Ask the mods how many messages are intercepted and you'll know. Not so long ago I found 4 very sexually explicit posts, linking to pornographic sites in several threads from a new member that apparently had not been blocked. Personally I don't have any hang-ups about sexual expcicitness or pronography (I usually get bored within 5 minutes) but I don't like such posts to appear in threads on SRP or any other forum. I prefer to keep things civilized here.

If censor sofware makes life easier for the mods I am perfectly happy with it even if it is easy to circumvent.

OK guys, I believe we have been more than successful in this noble endeavor of ours. We have the word of at least one moderator who has explicitly stated that the moderator team has seen the sensibility of it all and has accepted our demands.

Having an automatic filter (albeit imperfect one) has no doubt left the moderators with tons of free time on their hands, therefore they should be done with producing the best ever uber-super-duper filter in no time. That filter will not only catch any misspellings of any obscene words, but it will automatically block the neural pathways to the fingers even at the thought of posting obscenities, and any attempts to circumvent the filter will result on permanent crash of the offender's computer (just try it and you'll have to spend the rest of your life with as much porn as your grandfather).

If that is not a success I don't know what it is.

We have proven that the collective voices of regular folk do matter. Therefore keep an eye for the next call, which may be requesting Lynn dedicates the remaining of his days to completely pro-bono honing, or perhaps publicly revealing the brands of his top 20 razors....

In conclusion I want to thank you so very much for defending the only right position on this matter!

I shall request that this thread be now provisionally closed, but we will all keep an eye on the mods that they keep working 24/7 on improving the filter.
