    Default Trouble logging into chat

When I click on the "Chat" link, it always fails for me; I never get in. What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks

don't know if it has anything to do with your problem, but when I click on chat I get a popup that says "Several Java virtual machines running in the same process caused an error". Then if I proceed it says I need Java 1.4. I suppose the second error is just collateral from the first.

I've given up on chat for the same reason that Chris experienced. When I queried a Mod about it, I got no answer.

Do you guys have firewalls enabled? I cannot get into the IRC chat at work because of the University firewall.

I also could not get into the chat at home because of my firewall settings - I had to change them from "High" to "moderate" and then things worked.

All of those are good suggestions.

Quick.. It sounds like you have Java issues. reinstalling or upgrading Java should fix that. You can also download any IRC client (Chatzilla, MIRC). I'm sure some other favorites will be posted here. Anyone can PM me if they need any direct troubleshooting.

    Thanks

That did the trick. Reinstalled the latest Java and everything works fine now. Thanks.

Well, I got "no connection: null" all last night in the IRC Chat - tried upgrading java, and still nothing - I wasn't behind a firewall, so I have no idea what I was doing wrong

I was so frustrated, I even read the Help file!

Hmmm... try and IRC client like MIRC, X-Chat or CloneZilla (If you use Mozilla)? Any of those acceptable?

    Thanks

I had that problem and solved it but I lost the solution in a computer crash. Basically, my problem was that the chat software was using a channel that my PC (an Acer laptop) had reserved. You have to configure the chat software to use a different channel that is open. You have to find it by trial and error.

I wish I could be more specific but I don't remember all the details.
