    Default Sig line policy change

We had a discussion with on-admin-high, and we are going to ask people not to put banners in sig lines anymore.

If you have a website and you want people to know this, just put the URL in your sig line, but not a banner.
We cannot enforce this via the software, so we will contact people via PM whenever we encounter banners in sigs.

SRP earns some money by paid advertisments through the banners, so that we can keep the site going.
Since we chose only to have shaving related advertisments, the earnings aren't that big. If people can also post advertisments for free, then we run the risk of losing those earnings.
We also don't want people posting just to give exposure to their banner.

We haven't had any problems yet because generally, people do the right thing, but we want to prevent problems from happening as more and more people find their way to this place. Since several of our paying advertisers are also members here, losing earnings if paying is optional is a real risk.

IMHO this should be a sticky, I've only just found it myself and I'm here quite a lot, not that I'm an SRP addict or anything you understand. It would be good for new members to find out from the off about their sig's rather than having to PM everyone who offends.

Or maybe include it in the terms of use?

I am looking at how we can make this better integrated.
The problem with the terms of use is that noone ever reads them anymore after they did the first time (if they did in the first place) so if I just update there, noone would know.

I know when my credit card company changes my terms, it sends me a letter in the mail.

We (you, or whoever) could send out periodic emails when major changes to forum policy occur noting what the current terms are and boldfacing or noting what has changed since the last update

We could. But not all users have email configured, or accept PMs. And it is also not possible to send a mass PM afaik.

Maybe David or BT can come up with an idea.

It is possible to send that mass email.

However, that is also the one thing that has generated the most complaints (and I'm talking about more complaints than we receive about spam.)

In the end, I think the best thing is to set the stickies with the relevant information, update the terms of use, and hope for the best!
