We are looking for volunteers.
We'd like to get everything in the Help Files and Links over into the wiki, so David can kill those two tabs and make room for other stuff.
Some is big, some is small...
We appreciate anything that can be done.
If you are interested in helping us out, just pick one thing that seems interesting, move it into the wiki (some copy / paste and probably some formatting). Then post here what you added to the wiki (both the source link and the wiki page) and we will remove the original help / link.
By posting here, others will know that something is already done.
Thanks.

Hmmm... where can I see how to create categories and link stuff? I've created a page ( Shaving Soap - Straight Razor Place Wiki ) from the Help files, but dont know how to add it to the index.

To be honest, I have no clue. I hope that one of the other wiki contributors will chime in shortly.'
But thanks a lot for helping us with this.Last edited by Bruno; 12-23-2008 at 02:34 PM.

Cornelius, thanks! That page looks good, and we could do that with most of the pdfs in the help files.
Everything that can be moved was moved over the last few days: Upload log - Straight Razor Place Wiki
There are three or four pdf files that exceed the wiki size limitation and cannot be moved. I converted all the .doc files to .pdf format (that had not already been converted - necessary for the wiki as the wiki will not upload .doc files) and moved them as well. The videos were not moved as the wiki will not accept video file extensions as uploads. I did not move the "FAQ-how to add files to the help files" document and the Mac OS files were not moved either because of file extension limitation. There were also three or four files that will not open either from the help files link here or from the old SRP help files section so they were not uploaded either.
At this point, the help files need to have category tags added to each and every one so that they will be visible when a user clicks on any category. I plan on trimming down the category structure later today. Unless I am mistaken, I think the wiki is not available for user editing until the wiki contest winner has been announced on January 11.
I'm not quite sure I understand the question. I create categories by calling for them within the article itself like this: [[Category:NewCategory|New Category]]
What sort of link are you wanting to make? Something you might find helpful is the "View Source" tab at the top of each wiki article. By viewing source, you can see how others have created links and categories
dwessell was cracking the whip yesterday before I saw this thread, so I apologize in advance for those of you who were looking forward to moving the help files yourself. Go find more good stuff on the web (get permission to use if it's copyrighted) and upload it to the wiki! Or follow Cornelius' lead and manually converting the text in the pdf files to new pages. You can find links below

Oh, great! In that case, we "only" need to format it and add it to the wiki.
I just tried, and you're right, I can only edit my own pages, not those of others. That's not a problem, though, as I have no intention of editing other people's wikis. Unless I see spelling mistakes or something.
Does that add a subcategory or only a page? I did this (I think) and it added a page, but not a subcategory. I'm not sure why we get uncategorized pages?
I'm trying to add a subcategory containing the page I created, but have only been able to add a page (that shows in Pages at the bottom of the category). Following your message, I viewed the sources of other pages and understood what to add at the end of the text to make it happen. But I have not figured out how to add a subcategory (assuming I have "permission" to do this).

It adds a category, and the category is displayed as a page. I'm not sure about the uncategorized pages.
A subcategory is just a category that has another category called within it. Check out this category page showing subcategories. Click on one of the subcategories and view source, and you will see they are simply category pages as well, but that they are tagged to be included within the equipment category
So to create a subcategory, you create a category and then from within that new category, you link it to an existing category like so: [[Category:ExistingCategory|Existing Category]. Wiki will (I hope) automatically sort it out as a subcategory
That is about the extent of what I know right there, I hope it helpsLast edited by hoglahoo; 12-23-2008 at 06:55 PM.

Sorry, I missed an important step. The Category:Shaving_Soap page cannot only be called, it must be saved before it is actually created. Once created with the [[Category:Equipment]] in the page, then it appears in the category tree.
Take a look: http://straightrazorpalace.com/srpwi...y:Shaving_Soap
I tried to make your article a category and became very confused!Last edited by hoglahoo; 12-23-2008 at 09:47 PM.
