Thanked: 1903Wishlist: Articles for the Wiki
Chaps,
I hope this message finds you alive and well.
The Wiki has reached a point - courtesy not least of the recent addition of articles created by SRP users specifically for the Wiki (instead of aggregating existing texts from the forum) - where we might want to think about filling gaps. Case in point: Category:Face Preparation - Straight Razor Place Wiki
While da bomb and the rest of the Wiki Crew are working on installing a form system to build a straight razor database, I was wondering which other parts of the Wiki could use some improvement.
So, if you feel that something is missing from the Wiki, now is your chance to make a wish. For starters, here is mine:
- Anatomy of a straight razor (Wikipedia's entry is actually excellent)
- Travelling with a straight razor
- A comparison of hones (matrix with grits, uses, and an indication of price).
Please let's discuss this.

Thanked: 9This is a tough one, But let my try..
on the "other" website there was a post about ebay buying what to look for etc.. that would be helpful
I was going to try to put together a listing of razor restorers, honers etc by location and their cost range, i could work on that faster if you want that.
thats all i got, consider this post living, ill add to it as i think of some.

Thanked: 1903I have been thinking about the vendor issue as well. We have a sub forum for them, and we have a section in the Classifieds. I wonder whether that is not enough.
As far as companies (in or out of business) are concerned, I would suggest that you wait until the forms extension for the Wiki works. I would much prefer if the articles were very consistent (read: form filling in a template). Mind you, that is not to keep you from collecting information about them.
With regards to the buyer's guide, I think that Bill Ellis's guide is perfect: eBay Guides - Buying Straight Razors On Ebay But I also understand that there are some issues with him and SRP, so a pointer should suffice. Unless, of course, someone can come up with a better guide (which, truth be told, I doubt).

A more in depth description of different hones, and especially the use of slurry or not, and what effect it will have at the edge.I'm having a hard time finding advanced information on these issues.
Thanks Kristoffer.

Thanks Robin, this thread is overdue!
I have these on my list of things I have been meaning to put into the wiki for a while and I continue to put it off for whatever reasons. Some of these should be new articles, some should just be incorporated into existing articles.

Thanked: 1212An in depth article about the Belgian hones is currently a work in progress.
Just so you guys would know...
Of course, I don't hold the patent on those stones, so feel free to beat me to it. I can't rush this.

A directory of barbers that give good straight shaves, listed by state (plus international) would be nice for when we travel.

I have the material to make an in-depth article on corrosion, but I am a bit too busy the next few months.
If it sounds interesting, just tell me.
