Thanked: 1903Company information needed
Chaps,
Courtesy of Ben and his relentless efforts to make the SRP SRDB (Straight Razor DataBase) even more fun to use, we can now add information about the manufacturers of straight razors.
In Property:Manufacturer - Straight Razor Place Wiki, you can see a lot of Mediawiki red links. This means that by clicking on one of these red links, you will be taken to a form into which you can put information about the manufacturer, The screenshot below shows how easy it is to add information.
Please help the Straight Razor Place Forums - The SRP Documentation Team (aka The Wiki Crew) grow the Wiki.
Thank you.Last edited by BeBerlin; 03-28-2009 at 08:26 AM.

I can only see one red link that is called discussion. If I click that it tells me I have no access.

Thanked: 1903Three things:
- Somebody (me) got over excited and filled in the Henckels form. I have already notified Ben of the need for an image field into which to upload the logos.
- You must be logged in to be able to edit the Wiki: If you are an existing member of SRP, please log in first and then you will be able to make changes and/or contributions to the wiki. Due to a bug in the software that we use to synchronise login credentials between the forum and the wiki, you need to contact dwessell if your user name contains spaces (" "), dashes ("-") or underscores ("_").
- Manufacturers currently missing are listed here: Property:Manufacturer - Straight Razor Place Wiki
Heinr. Böker Baumwerk GmbH seems an easy enough target: http://www.boker.de/us/index.php?c=2003

Here's some history on Henckels and its trade marks:
ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS :: Company profile :: The history of the ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS brand
And here's some more in German: ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS :: Unternehmensinfo :: Die Geschichte der Marke Zwilling
and in PDF: http://www.zwilling.com/media/pdf/zw...4/00000004.pdfPlus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr.

It worked!
I copied the links into the database. I could not copy the content itself. I am afraid I am not clever enough and do not have the relevant software to do so. Maybe one of the editors wil be able to do so. I do recommend copying of texts and pics as the contents of websites are changed all the time by their onwers.Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Thanked: 1903Excellent find. Feel free to add it to Edit Straight Razor Manufacturer: Henckels, J.A. - Straight Razor Place Wiki - Ben's done a fantastic job with those forms.

And now for something completely different:
Here's some info on Heljestrand: History
I have quite a bit of information on J.G. Escher, that file is way to large to upload, contains pictures. If you like I can send it by regular e-mail. Unfortunately for most members it is mostly in German.
To cut a long story short: J.G. Escher & Soehne started in 1790, changed their name to JGES in 1920. In 1948 they started making toy cars as well. The toy cars are collectors’ items just as the hones! They were nationalized by the communist government in 1953 and became part of the VEB (= company owned by the people) Press- und Schleifmittel. Later the name changed to Fabrik Plastawerke Sonneberg, Betrieb Theuern. In 1991 after the reunification of Eastern and Western Germany it was sold to Hummel & Mann makers of filters and parts for the automotive industry.Last edited by Kees; 03-28-2009 at 11:03 AM.

Thanked: 1903Right. Heljestrand is now done: Heljestrand, C. V - Straight Razor Place Wiki. - I simply looked up Heljestrand here: Property:Manufacturer - Straight Razor Place Wiki, then clicked on its red link. It's a regular link now, obviously. Filled in the form in 20 seconds, done. Thanks for the link!
Escher we do not have yet. If you or somebody else think a database of hones to be worthwhile, come to the chat and let us discuss this.
