    Default New Review System.

    Hello Folks..

We're rolling out a new review system, that'll be a little better then just using the forums as we have in the past.. Ideally it'll give an alphabetical listing as well as allow ratings of products.. Good stuff.

The mods have taken part in desigining the rating criteria, but we'd like your feedback on it as well.

Great Idea...but I don't understand that 'beer' and 'coffee' thing in the rating.. And there should be more things than just 'overall' in the rating screen

Sounds like a good idea to me. Will the old reviews be moved into the 'new review' section ? If so you might allow the OP to edit the review to include the new rating system.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

As the old reviews vary wildly in their structure, I would suggest that we do what we did with the old Buy/Sell/Trade forum: put it into an archive. If you are the author of an old review, copy and paste into a new one, and someone can remove your old post.

I think it looks good. I might split out creams from soaps.

Also, I've never thought the numerical ratings add any value whatsoever. We might have the same experience, and I"d give it a 7 and you'd say 10, and who knows what either means. And on other sites the numberical ratings tend to be too high or too low (becasue we all love a product or don't). Just my two cents, but I'd get rid of the numerical ratings but encourage [but not require] textual analysis of those categories.

I completely agree. The numbers really mean nothing - and we'll know from the text whether the author really likes a product, sort of likes a product, or doesn't like a product. I prefer it when our forum doesn't look the same as all the others.

Initially the idea was to use one rating, Overall.. However, in initial discussions with the mods we broke it out into what you see now.. Interseting that wide variety of opinions on the subject. I myself favor the Overall rating... As it's simplictic, useful at a glance, and will incorporate not only the reviewers rating but give everyone a chance to rate and thus impact the overall rating.

I beg to differ. If I gave a product a 5, based on its scent, but its average rating would actually be 8, what good is the overall rating? I quite like the finely granulated rating we have now. Mind you, we might also use 1-5
