PIF / Freeby in the BST section
This thread and Eric brought this thought about.
A place to put up freebies to newbs or other things. Eric's idea and I second it would be for people that want to try x soap, cream, A/S, etc post that so that others that have what they want may send it to them to test.
This idea just furthers the grass roots vendors that we have here. It helps new guys that are sometimes clueless as to what to buy or how much.

That’s not a bad idea.
I have some partially-used soaps that aren’t getting much attention, and I have a PIF kit that I need to move on to someone else (since I’ve held on to it for FAR too long). it would be nice to have an area that we can find people looking for items that we would like to pass on for free or for the cost of shipping. I was looking at some SOTD pics today and was just thinking that it would be nice to be able to find someone that got some MWF or Tabac that they decided they didn’t like so I could try it out without committing to the cost of a full puck/shipping/etc.
The only caveat I can think of is that if the area is created on the forum we may end up seeing lots of posts saying “gimme, gimme, gimme” and fewer that are offering up items. Admittedly, I have very little I can offer in that area aside from the afore-mentioned soaps and the starter kit.
I admit that it is rather inspiring to see the threads where a person begins talking about an item or product (razor, soap, paddle strop, whatever) and shortly after see a member up and offer to send said item to the person for no other reason than the fact that they can encourage the person by doing so. I would hate to see this proposed new area in the forums restrict or kill such generosity that we see so often here.
Just my $0.02, though it’s probably not even worth that much.

Thanked: 234One thing I have noted since I've been here is giving inspires giving. I have a job lot on the way soon and I really hope there is one razor in there I can give away.
I don't, however, think it would be great to advertise the fact. If people want to give things away as a PIF then it should be done privately, or atleast, not in a section where people can just look it up.
We can all post if we want to give something away, and the terms of that arangement. That is enough, for me, and my PIFs will remain private.

Thanked: 328I'll suggest that you send them to str8razor. We have a monthly giveaway, and he's ALWAYS stretching to get enough stuff.. So if you have things that you want to donate, he's your go to guy. There's also tons of gatherings going on around, and they are always looking for donations for raffles to help support the cost of putting the things on.

ive been on lots of forums that ahve threads that only appear once you hit a certain post amount or time spent...
itd be cool to have a sample-trading thread for senior members, instead of having to post classified ads, clogging that system
and u dont talk about it outside of that thread,
like fight club.Last edited by The0ctopus; 05-21-2009 at 01:59 AM.

I posted a giveaway for some SE's in the DE/SE section. I asked the moderators to move the posting if this area was inappropriate and so far it has stayed. I would think a PIF/Givaway section in either the classified aor maybe a standalone section wouild be appropriate.
I for one have several str8's that I am thinking about giving away so I believe there is a need for a place to post.

but the thing with totally public giveaways is, people might just sign up to get free stuff and turn right around and sell them on ebay or whatever.
im in lots of forums and giveaways, any time theres potential profit involved, scam artists come out of the woodwork
its gotta atleast be hidden to people that arnt signed in.
even long time members with lots of posts have stolen from us in the past, once we had a fairly inexpensive item that we were shipping around the world, getting pics of it in all kinds of cool places, and it got stolen by a member that was very trusted, had done lots of financial deals with us, and was very well off financially.Last edited by The0ctopus; 05-21-2009 at 11:47 PM.
