Thanked: 293Classified Sale E-mail Issue
Forum Gods,
Here's an excerpt of a sale email I got from "webmaster". I hid the price with "" for privacy purposes.
Oglethorpe, your ad on Straight Razor Place has been purchased.
Your ad has been purchased by for $.
He purchased 1 ads at $each.
Note that the username of the buyer is blank. Is the intention here that the buyer's username not be known by the seller? I already have his contact information thanks to PayPal, but in the event that I hadn't used PayPal, how would I know who to contact?
Feel free to PM me the answer if you don't want this to be posted in the thread.
Thanks,
Ogie

I had the exact same issue with one of the items that I sold not too long ago. I honestly don't remember which one, but the username of the buyer was completely blank. As with you, I was lucky that I had the address thanks to paypal. Beats me why it happened.

If you hadn't used paypal you wouldn't receive such email because there wouldn't be a buy-it button and the buyer would have to send you a PM or email to arrange the transaction details.
If the buyer is a member who is logged in their screenname does appear there. If they are non member or not logged in the transaction can still occur but the missing data is left blank.

Thanked: 293Okay --
I was under the impression that the Classifieds could only be used by members. That explains it.
Thanks,

gugi,
Are you saying any internet person, non-member, could get into our classifieds and start pushing buy it now buttons and not have any responsibility?
Thanks,
Rick

I think this is the case. It may be possible to turn it on only for people logged in, but I don't know, dwessell is the person to ask.
As far as responsibility goes, the transactions are mediated by Paypal, so the buyer and seller get the protections that go with such.
SRP doesn't really get involved at all except to host the ad and forward the transaction over to paypal if the button is clicked.
I'm thinking that the way it is set currently it's a bit more flexible. If a seller doesn't want non members to purchase their items they can not enable the buy-it button when creating the ad and then respond only to members contacting them via PM to arrange the transaction details.
