Thanked: 234Totally agree with this, I would decline the offer, though to be honest - I am not sure in which crazy world someone like me would be offered it in the first place!
I am glad that on here the mods feel free to speak their mind, and don't feel obliged to toe a party line, and are happy to share their opinions on various topics. That is a good thing.

ah yes here it is
I'm not going to say I told you so, and I'm not going to quote myself saying it
but I will make my omission of such statements very obvious
here we have someone who freely admits that they have no experience with said topic, but someone assumes they are right due to the mentor badge
http://straightrazorpalace.com/advan...tml#post412844
the nature of my posts in this thread are EXACTLY why I wouldn't want that badge, and how having it could REALLY muddy the water.
this
http://straightrazorpalace.com/advan...tml#post412808
is an example of when I said that people are excited to hear someone stand up and say
"THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT !"
none of this reflects on the posters in the thread other than that they are human, and that human nature is fairly predictable

right
I made him say Ron was right
this is all my doing
I'm pointing at a problem, not making one.
the rest of my posts ARE trying to help the community, and ARE on topic
we are discussing the pros and cons of a double bevel
my mention of not wanting a badge is so that my theory can't be viewed through the prism of a badge (I speak the Gospel in other words)
it's only theory and it needs to be viewed as such

Thanked: 1587As has been repeatedly stated in this thread and elsewhere, a Mentor is not necessarily an expert. They are someone who is willing and able to help out others. Many of the mentors have expressed this view in previous posts on this thread and others.
Prior to the mentoring scheme implementation, and probably as long as this forum has been up, there have been numerous instances of the type of behaviour you point out above. How has creating mentors made this any different? How do you deconvolve the fact that many mentors are long-time, or senior, members, and that people have a tendency to listen to and believe them, regardless of a badge?
Jumping to unfounded conclusions as to why something has occurred helps no one.

the quote speaks for itself
here is Ron's disclaimer
and here is the example I'm taking issue with (not Bruce himself)
he quotes Ron and adds.....
to deny this phenomenon is akin to the philosophers who debate the existence of the external world
here are my hands, right in front of my face
what more evidence can you ask for?Last edited by gratewhitehuntr; 07-06-2009 at 10:38 PM.
