Ding dong the rep is dead ..... that is fine with me. Would it be that big a deal to put the last four thanked posts in the user cp as it was then ? It is not a question of ego .... sometimes a reply may be in order and it is easier to access with fewer steps than how it is now.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Sorry. No can do. The settings of the thank you system are rather limited.
I could have a look in the template to see if I can change it, but that would be a long term thing, so for now the answer would be no.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

You do have to run the search from your stats page, like JMS pointed out, but you can bookmark the search. For example, here is the link to mine http://straightrazorpalace.com/searc...archid=1315579
Edit: actually, I'm not sure if using that link will always go to the most recent list of thanked posts. someone thank me and well see.

Thanks Quick. Unfortunately, the links appear to be static, so new "thanks" do not show up without creating a new search. Oh well...

Sid , I think we ALL need to take a step back and remember why we ALL joined this forum. This "stuff" with the rep system and no the mentors is drawing too much discussion, for much too long already. People on both sides are getting really frustrated and thus take it a bit too personal. As was said earlier, this place has become very big(proof of how good it is) and it is impossible to ask everyone's opinion or even to please all of us. Let's take a step back and give things a chance, if it doesn't work out I'm sure it too will be a thing in the history books and we will all have discussions about whatever is next and the "I TOLD YOU SO's" will fly for a while also.
NO ONE WANTS YOU OR ANYONE ELSE TO LEAVE!!!!!!! Especially over something like this that is REALLY put in place to help the forum and the mods along. Mentors were NOT picked out of favoritism or friendships repaid. They are simply helpful people that seem to get along with others and there will be more to come in this experiment.
Pull up a chair behind your comp and post away,,,you too can help this place grow into the steps ahead. Take a deep breath and let's all move on to better things.Having Fun Shaving

well I have to feel at least partially responsible for the death of the rep system
but why?
because I started a thread about it?
the overwhelming result of the poll was a tie between
"Don't care"
and
"This poll is stupid"
since when is having a discussion about something the same as denouncing?
better to get it out in the open and gauge the response
the response on the green dits was "who cares"
I'm kinda sad to see them go honestly, and for several reasons
not the least of which is that someone worked very hard to put the system in place
I'm sure it felt like a real kick in the nuts to see people so angry at neg rep
on the other hand, someone, or several someones WERE abusing it
by abuse I am including the fact that other people didn't know what the hell it was, and it was like getting sucker punched
I've never seen ANYONE get sucker punched and not be angry
it wasn't a failure of the dits, it was a failure to publish info about how they worked
a certain mod was talking with me via email about starting a thread about improving the "dit" system, but I didn't even understand his suggestions about possible poll questions
why did I bash the mentor badge?
simple
a certain someone
was spouting a certain something
in a certain place
and they happened to be a mod
so I should assume they know what the hell they are talking about right?
well they didn't
and it took me a while to figure it out
fact is that sometimes a little information is worse than none at all
the mods here work hard and should be supported
I'm sorry if my "ban the neggrepelian" thread made you think I was mad about the dits, it was to show that no one was THAT mad
I want me rep back (I keed I keed)

So are we back to the idea of a '+1' button like before the rep system? lol

Thanked: 4942Actually,
I am about ready to close this thread. Sorry we couldn't please the few of you who won't let go here, but truly, if you are unhappy here, you might want to consider another venue. I find it hard to believe that any one would leave this great place over something like this and would certainly feel bad if they did, but enough is enough.
For the rest of you, Thanks for all your support.

I thought the +1 button was an interesting idea. It would only affect individual posts rather than having any impact on the credibility of every post by a given member. It would also prevent the need to add extra posts that repeat the "+1"ed post or posts just so members can say +1.
That said, I have never really though about negatives. Would there have to be a -1 button as a balance? What happens in situations where there are differing opinions but one one is really wrong (i.e. a honing progression with X, Y, and Z is better than a progression with P, Q, and R) and people go to war with +1's (and/or -1's)? What if people give out +1's or -1's without having actually tried the given technique/strategy/idea in the post, causing the over all + or - to be meaningless?
I think it's certainly a system that could be well implemented, if done so by brighter minds than I.
