Keep in mind guys that these badges just give the new guys a point of contact so they know who is someone that would be willing to help answer some questions and who are willing to give up a few minutes of there time to a new person. I know how hard it is in the beginning to send a pm to a stranger asking for help. At least this way they have some idea of who is willing to spend some time directing them and if you receive a pm with a question outside you realm of experience then it is a simple matter to forward their pm and introduce then to the people that they need to be talking to. The Badge is not meant to say hey look at me I know everything! it is meant to say I am competent at most things and I am willing to give up some of my time to help a new person down the right road or help you meet the people who can.

My strong suit is in honing, I would be more comfortable with Mentor badge being displayed in the honing forums and in the Newbies forum but nowhere else.
If I may make a suggestion... Randy has a good point. One easy solution is in the "custom title" field, where it usually says "Senior Member" the mentor can just substitute the particular field he is most comfortable with. Like Randy has placed "Razors and Rocks."

I would leave mine blank then as I don't consider myself expert in any of those fields, just experienced.

The term "mentor" implies someone willing to help and teach, not expert. Anyone who would follow, without question, what a teacher or mentor says will not do well in any field of endeavor.

I am honored that somebody saw fit to think that any help I might offer has merit.

Thanks. that is a good suggestions. It's not mandatory of course, but if you want to show some detail, this might be a nice way.
Separate buttons would be an administrative nightmare, and hvaing them not show up would involve hacking the vb code.
