Just came back to the site after somewhat of an absence. Noticed this change and thought immediately that it was a great idea. I like the fact that there are now signposts to point new members to people who's knowledge has stood the test of time. I've seen several people join and instantly grow a following despite giving poor advice simply because of the eloquence of their posts. Most of them eventually lose their position of prominence or actually learn enough to give proper advice, but in the meantime I think our hobby has lost some participants due to poor help.
For a simple analogy: A small town sheriff has a tin star and everyone knows who he is. As the town grows the sheriff needs a uniform because not everyone will know him. I'm glade we now have people who will serve and protect the knowledge base here at SRP. (Before someone say the thought the MODS were the police I liken them more to judges )
I like this:
Every mentor I have seen would be a good "newbee starter" yet some have special knowledge in other areas. I for instance still get PM's about doing this on the cheap, and I feel this is an area I can contribute. Ask me about Japanese naturals and the only thing I can tell you is that they are to rich for my blood It is up to the mentor to admit their ignorance as well as their strengths but it would be nice to be able to see those strengths laid out quickly.
Even if I get burned out every once in a while and have to take a break its cool to see how this place grow and frankly it keeps managing to hang on to its personality as it grows. It really is amazing to see and awesome to be a part of.
