New article request
I think we need a myth-busting article to dispel popular newbie myths about straight razor shaving, honing, stropping, etc
Each myth decapitation should be accompanied by solid references
Do y'all think this would be a good article to have in the wiki, or is the FAQ a better place for this?Find me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode. Link is at top of SRP's homepage

Thanked: 346That's not nearly as much fun as a "How to Survive a Shaving Mishap" article, starting with a discussion of jlstorm's 12/8 fireworks show earectomy.

Well, I suppose I could make up some myths for entertainment value. Like Nelson

Thanked: 346Possibly something debunking this idea that the invention of safety razors prompted this immediate and massive abandonment of those dangerous straight razors - King Gillette went bankrupt many times before there was finally enough market acceptance of his razor for his company to make payroll, and didn't really hit it big until WWI when all the doughboys were shipped off with a Gillette in their kit.
Similarly a description of why barbers finally abandoned the straight razor even in its disposable form (barber licensing boards being merged with the cosmetology boards who have been trying to turn barbers into hairdressers for the last 30 years)
Another myth would be the old barber's tale about microscopic sawteeth.Last edited by mparker762; 09-29-2009 at 09:03 PM.

Thanked: 124Not really a myth, but I've seen a few newbie threads about shaving in the shower. Fortunately, I don't think there are references for any actual mishaps in this area (besides common sense) but I'd think the potential damage would be a good enough reason to bend to rules a bit--
Myth: its a good idea to shave in the shower.
Answer:false!
Then have a picture of a sausage cut in half or something just to reinforce things.
