It's fine. Some folks use it so keep it there. It's not ruining society. People thought that when kids started text messaging. Communication is a wonderfull thing, let them tweet.

take a look at english and grammar grades. the very concept of proper communication has suffered with the so called harmless "texts"(my daughter and my sister-law-law are both english teachers) proper sentence syntax is completely lost in most texts and tweets.
side note, how many texts and now probably tweets have caused traffic accidents or will in the future?

Wow great, I'm not reading that. Because it has nothing to do with the twitter bar on this website. Ask Reagan what he thinks.

I voted to get rid of it, but I think if there was a way for people to enable/disable it as they choose, it would be fine.

Personally, I have never used twitter, and just seeing the red bubble with numbers climb higher and higher is annoying.

Well it's like this, I have the tweetle dumb bug following the left margin of my monitor with every move I make on this forum coupled with the ads on the right side hiding portions of the first one or two posts. These insistent devices disturb my composure. Were I a techno whiz, I'm sure I'd love the option to tweet with all the other wizards on the forum, but I ain't. I'm slow, stodgy, nearly witless, and quite hard of hearing. All this input and opportunities for communication are more than both my faculties and keyboard can handle. I'm further flummoxed by the assumption that tweeting with the flock requires more electronic gadgetry. I hate to say it, but I'd rather buy another razor than buy a whatzitz on which to tweet, not to mention that I'd likely also have to spend a small fortune on hearing aids - radically reducing my shaving budget which spending is encouraged by those insistent ads. Being drawn between pillar and post while taking a hoped for restful nap on Procrustes' bed comes to mind here.

But hey, I should have a harmonica somewhere, will that work?

    Well, let's be fair...

The majority of people are rather poor at speaking and writing their own language, as a general rule. This is true today, and it was true a thousand years ago. It's just that today, basic literacy is available to everyone, whereas before only the elite had the opportunity. Texting/Tweeting/whatever else didn't destroy English any more than the Southern twang or the East London growl did.

I say this as a 20-year-old who in insists on spelling out my words in texts and chat, and has been using computers since I was about 4 years old. I chose to speak and write correctly. And I note that there are a few guys floating around here who are about my age, and most of them write well too.

I don't use mybook anymore not even facespace. Plus I have all the ads blocked now. So it doesn't matter to me.

The insidious side of this is that evidence suggests simply reading poorly written material reduces one's capabilities in various ways.
