Bill,
If you are referring to the title under your name, it's by the number of posts, regardless of whether they have any value or not. It is not overly accurate as I am a Honemeister (am not!).
As to becoming an actual Honemeister, I would assume lots of practice. I am qualified to comment on the first paragraph, but far from qualified to explain here.

Joe, I think the post limits for the titles and ranks are set too low... Maybe the trafic of this site went over everyone's expectations. I definitely think you should set the transition points higher... I was hardly shaver with my 30-40 posts, and not barber at all with 70. I also think that honemaister title should be the ultimate rank reserved for the higher posters... (Well, you can set Lynn's rank permanent honemeister)
Maybe you can ask for members to post their title and rank examples, then you can select the best of them and use that. I already know Randy's suggestion Blabbermouth but I think shaving related names are more fun.
maybe:
Rank 0-50 newbie (patron?)
50-99 badger wrestler (think xman posted this somewhere)
100-199 whisker twister
200-299 barber
300-499 hone crusher
500-1000 sumo honer
1000 + honemeister
and maybe make the senior member title after maybe 500 posts...
Now, I am sure someone will come up with funnier titles than mine, so go ahead...
have phun,
Nenad

Thanked: 1I personally don't think post counts are needed. Not that we have a problem here, but on my off road board, where we have a lot of youngin's, we disabled them. Mainly because some folks thought they meant something, and would respond to everything just to pad their count. Even if they didn't have something inteligent to say.

Honemeister
Personally I feel that in order to become a HONEMEISTER you should have to prove that you can actually hone a razor with different types of blades and actually shave with them. We could have some of the current proven honemeisters check out our honing skills but then that might cause some dissention, I don't know. As some have said posting has nothing to do with the skill of honing a razor. I could put my wife on here and she could talk or post her way to a honemeister in a heart beat and yet do you think that she could hone a razor......... NOT.
Then again what you have now may just be OK. I am sure that some of the current honemeisters wouldn't want to be shaving with all of the razors that will be sent to them in order for them to analyze them. I guess we could go on the honor system and take the word of the person doing the honing and the shaving.
