another new forum idea
How abouit a forum where people in the group can display their razor creations. Like Bills scales and Vlads violin scales razor or Nenads clear scales. It would be great to have a place to go to see some of this fine work.

It's Called A User Gallery
You should use it some time.

Thanked: 0Custom Corner
I went on the user gallery ,but I would enjoy it more as a forum. I really enjoy the works of the guys here. make your straight with that personlized touch gives it meaning, I love to see the designs and work these skilled guys do, as well as talk about it even for people like me,( who do not have a shop or skilled to do the work) right now I'm jumping around searching to find pics of custom works.

Rich,
I have used the "user gallery" and it is somewhat awkward to move around in. I have looked at pics that people have posted and they seem to be a lot better quality plus it is easier to make comments on a post and see other comments then it is in the "user gallery". So your idea of a separate forum and "nunz4" idea of "custom corner" or whatever name you choose is a good one. However, you must realize the current forum "straight razor restoration" seems to cover this to a good degree but you could limit the "custom corner" only to pics of custom razors if you wanted. Anyway my two cents.if anything has been abnormal for a long enough period it then becomes normal.

The forum idea is good. I don't think there's a contest between whether to use the Gallery or the Forum...
The User Gallery is simply a place to store pictures and graphics (and it provides a browser based viewer to look at them, albeit somewhat cumbersome to use). The quality of the pictures stored there is whatever the gallery owner uploaded.
The Forum primarily stores text for display in a browser window, and it allows you to imbed a link to an "image" if you want to display a picture integrated with the text. The forum does not actually store the picture for you (unless you're happy with a thumbnail sized one). The quality of the images are whatever the message author linked to.
So, if you want to display high quality pictures in forum messages (like you've recently seen from Urleebird and PapaBull) you have to have them stored somewhere... that could be the User Gallery, on your own website (or some other website provided the website owner gives you permission to link to them), or a service (eg, like photobucket).
For example, here is a picture which is stored in the User Gallery...

Thanked: 0I always look at restoration corner, which I think is a must to have.
but I personally do not do any restoration work, there are terriffc subjects on tools sanders etc. and of course blades and scales in progress which is ideal.
The site is fantastic.
the custom area should show pictures of "finished works" blades, scales, razor boxes, storage racks etc.made by fellow members, so we can drool......
not to mention commission work, from these great artists/craftmen
