Default Editing features disabled in firefox.

I suddenly can't use any of the editing icons for posts. All advanced editing icon buttons are disabled in Firefox. This just happened on the last post, I restarted Firefox with no change in status. IE still works as before. Has anyone encountered this and what would be the fix?

Are you using a PC? Did you try a reboot?

    Hmm...
I'm using Firefox for this posting

    Test

The above formatting was done using the icons under Firefox 1.5.0.4/Windows.
I have the "disable smilies" box unchecked (of course) and Javascript enabled.

Same here... using firefox 1.5.0.4 under winxp and don't see a problem.

Any chance you clicked "quick reply" (which doesn't have the smilies, etc.) instead of "post reply" (which has the full editor)?

Like I said it just happened to me too. No reboots, no installs. I was using firefox 1.5.0.4 for a while and everything was fine then on a reply I noticed that stuff is disabled. I'll try to reboot the machine later.

the "same here" was referring to the fact that I also am using firefox. The key was that I don't see the same problem you do.

The only thing I can think of is what I asked before...

    No, Joe.

I always use post and the reason I noticed that it stopped working was while trying to insert a link. The only work around I have is to open the reply window in IE Tab which is basically IE instead of firefox. Everything in IE works fine.

I also rebooted the machine and no changes.

I have a few extras installed in firefox but these were there before. I did not install any when it failed. I will try to remove them one by one to see if it starts working again just in case I did install one during a senior moment.

I also have the editing window messing up and I suspect it is some interference with javascript. All the line breaks are gone when I hit "Preview".

A lot of the problems using Firefox is related to your firewall settings. I had to mess around for hours to get Firefox and ebay to work correctly. Try turning your firewall off and see if that changes anything, then you will know.

    Vlad,

I can only say that I've had only minor problems w/firefox, none of which affected compatibility with vBulletin forum software. I've used it (or Mozilla) exclusively for many years now. I assume you have looked at your firefox options to make sure something didn't accidentally get changed/disabled (eg, javascript). I guess worst case you could try uninstalling/reinstalling firefox and java? Or revert Firefox back to its default settings... [see here], which includes:
    Code:
    2. How to recover from errors. If your changes make Firefox unstable,
close all instances of Firefox and then copy your preferences files
from your backup location to the default location and restart
Firefox. In extreme cases, when Firefox won't even start, you
can rename the User.js file and/or the Prefs.js file to a temporary
name and then start Firefox. The browser will revert to a default
configuration, allowing you to transfer your "safe" preferences
    into a new file.

I tried un-installing FireFox, no change. I tried uninstalling all the extras, no change. I uninstalled firefox and deleted its installation directory, reinstalled--no change.

I will have to clear out everything after an uninstall and see if I can get a clean installation.

I have been using firefox for years too and on SRP with no issues. This is really annoying because I can only reply if I open an IE tab which is slow.
