New SRP front page
I'm a marketing guy, and as such, I'm trained to be focused on the look, feel, and "intuitive-ness" of a product as much as the functionality of it. So, lets assume for the moment the functionality is okay. The front page is not.
From my perspective, the front page of SRP is horribly cluttered, and the space is not utilized well as an entranceway to the world of Straight Razor Shaving.
Straight razor shaving is "simple" and "clean". Our front page should reflect that aesthetic.
> Our new layout is cluttered and needs to be pared down and cleaned up.
A.) The left "recent posts" section is useless. Worse, it's visually distracting. There is NO point in taking up real estate on the front page with 4 "new" posts. Remove this section entirely.
B.) The "Lynn honing" video should also be removed from the front page. It's available in the videos section and if Lynn feels his picture should be on the front page (which I doubt he does) then re-do the SRP logo and put his smiling mug in it. But get that video off the front page. It's taking up room and cluttering up the front page.
C.) The center section has a couple of posts that will be relevant to some people for some period of time. Any message important enough to be on the front page of SRP should be important enough that I don't have to "click to read more".
> Just get rid of all the current "sections" on our front page and replace them all with one simple panel. At the top of it, a short message from Lynn, (in it's entirety- no "clicking-to-read-more"), would be welcoming, and below that a layout of the general categories of offerings at the site.
And that's all. A lot of white space on the front page is a good thing. If the front page ends up being 60% white that's fine. Simple, clean, elegant.
Like straight razor shaving.

Since this has nothing to do with the 'new layout' I'm moving it in its own thread - the current front page is just a little bit improved version of the old front page.
Yeah, I'd like better front page too, so if somebody who is good at that wants to make it happen that'll be pretty cool.
