One nice side effect of the change is that when browsing on my blackberry the entire top of the page is now in order. After the upgrade I basically couldn't use most of the menu items, now I have full function.

I like this implement a lot!
It seems it will only function on my machine when I select any of the other Quick styles from the drop down at the bottom of the pages.
On the default style it is as before.
I use MacOS 10.6.7 and Google Chrome.Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

I use Win XP and Google Chrome and can be added as a fan of the Google Search. I used google a lot to search SRP b/c I could put srp as the site in the Google search and get just SRP results. I don't use Firefox so the ad on wasn't going to help me.
I also use Win 7 and MSIE 8 at home, but no chance to try the Google Search there yet.
I imagine it will yield different results than the former search and those that relied heavily upon the former search (were good at using it) will have some difficulty adjusting, but I'm a fan.
My 2 cents.

Thanks all for the feedback so far
Right, at the moment we use the styles to mostly test out various things, and I intentionally didn't change the SRP style so that we can easily switch back to that one. The styles system is still not very good, but it's workable, so it's not too much maintenance to keep them like this. I did set the system default for everybody who hasn't set a style to be the one with the googlesearch, so that most people would be switched automatically and those who have overriden the system default are presumably savvy enough to pick whatever works best for them.
Yeah the old one is still available under Advanced Search, for those who prefer it, but eventually we'll set the one that the majority prefers to be the search that doesn't require an extra click, and the one with the extra click would be for the minority.
That is the intended difference. The order is set by Google's algorithm, not by the chronology of the posting. The idea is that Google is better at figuring out the most relevant results, than the time ordering is. You can use the advanced search for the old version.
That's why we're still considering this an experiment and need to get feedback like yours. Thanks.
We have pretty good indexing at google, so this shouldn't be a big problem, but please let us know exactly what search terms gave you more results when searching the site on google versus the search in the google bar on SRP.
Google should be looking at the exact same data in both ways, so I'm very interested to know differences like this and then we can figure out what the problem is.
Of course, all of the SRP developers are volunteers and have plenty of things to do in their real life other than fixing the forum, so eventually these things depend on their availability.
It's still fun to try new things as an experiment and even if we can't make them work perfectly we can always decide whether the new way is a little better or a little worse than the old way and then stick with the one that works better.Last edited by gugi; 05-01-2011 at 12:41 AM.

You are absolutely right, I checked it after your post, but haven't had the time to learn more and see if there is a good solution. I should probably ask in the google groups, though in the past I haven't had very good success with my technical questions there. Of course, we have more developers who can probably figure it out too, I just need to change some of the google setup a little bit first.
As I said earlier you can use the advanced search to do it the old way that worked for you.
It seems that for many people the google search is working a little bit better, so I'm not inclined yet to revert it completely. I'd rather get to the bottom of why it doesn't yet work as we'd want it to, and also work on improving the interface so it's easier to switch between both.
Thanks

I love the Google forum search, it's much easier for me to get my search terms right. I was never in love with the old search engine, but I try to shut my pie-hole and not complain about terrific services I get for free. Thanks again to everyone for their hard work.

Thanked: 275One problem with Google:
. . . There's a time delay between posting and indexing.
I put up a post today about a Feather single-edge razor. The "Advance Search" found it. Google did not.
I prefer the "old" search -- nicer display, and more "timeliness".
