Thanked: 2I've spoken to a few moderators regarding this exact subject... If its a rule, I believe the place for it to be stated is in the "Rules of Conduct" thread... not in some obscure wiki that doesnt even have rules in the title. I would never think to look there for rules... the only place I went to find the rules is in the rules thread... i mean, it just makes sense! Just mho on how to improve things and eliminate some future issues

Unfortunately the pontification above doesn't quite jive with this screenshot
I've had a great idea about a new master rule - next time there's any change in the rules, we simply ban everybody so that they can reregister and read whatever current rules are pertinent before deciding if they'll abide by them. Unfortunately the powers that be are big softies, some even wear pink.
As far as what somebody's motives, the problem is that nobody but them knows what those are, and I'm pretty sure most people would very much prefer moderation based on actual behavior.
Finally it's my personal opinion that if somebody is distressed when they are simply told that valuations are not allowed on the forum, shaving with straight razor is way too dangerous for them.
But other than that, yes I agree that it's good for whatever rules are that they be explicit and easy to find, and I've got plenty of site changes to prove it.

Thanked: 2gugi... that is the place I was referring to that all rules should go..lol. gssixgun mentioned the valuation rule listed in another forum thread in the workshop section. I have absolutely no gripe with having a rule again valuation. There are way to many variables to give any sort of opinion on the value of a razor. My only input was that if there is a rule it should be in the above stated "Site Rules and Conduct" section since thats the most logical place to look.

Hmmmm You mean that link that was followed by this statement
It will be improved upon, and more widely spread, with better explanations of why we do this, but that one has been there for quite some time...
As you can tell from the progression. that this was never a wide spread problem in the past. in fact it is still a rather minor one.. But since it has been brought up we will address it in the main rules.... And make it a written rule instead of just the polite etiquette that it has always been...Last edited by gssixgun; 11-05-2011 at 10:46 PM.

Haha, well, I can assure you that it's not something over which I lose sleep.
Distressed is certainly not a word I'd use to describe my motivation for this thread. I just thought it would be helpful to have one of the obvious and universal rules listed, as this might save you mods a few "no valuations" posts per week. I learned about it through another member in chat, so now I know. And knowing is half the battle

The thing is that it's best to use the right tool for the job. Forum threads are for discussions, and don't work very well for conducting sales, or as a document repository.
OTOH a wiki is just about perfect to collaborate on a document.
So the rules are kept in a single central repository in the wiki, because that's the best way to maintain them current and easily accessible. I don't think an extra click is a big deal, but I can certainly make a big link saying RULES at the beginning of the forum list and they'll point to the right place.
The problem is that nobody cares about the rules, they are important only as a reference, but are extremely rarely referred to. Which means that the space that such a link would be taking is better utilized by something else that's visited more often.
I've had the rules linked under the 'Help' tab for many months now, one day I'll check the visits.

Oooh, boy.
Let this be a lesson to you, then. Never mess with a moderator.
Don't get hung up on hanging hairs.
