Thread: Chat is DISABLED due to Security Breach

I had to disable the FlashChat program this morning due to a security breach I discovered which likely occurred shortly before we moved to the new site. I believe no harm was done, but better to be safe at this time. If you click the FlashChat link in the navbar menu you'll be directed to the main site... I know that's not elegant, but is the most expediant way to immediately close the door to further risk.

I 'll upgrade to the latest version of the program sometime over the next few days. This will immunize us against future attacks of this particular type. The hackers are a crafty lot, so they're sure to keep trying to find another way to invade sites such as ours.

Geez, I haven't been on IRC in years. I wonder if I still have a copy of mIRC lying around...

I know for a fact I DON'T... I got fed up w/IRC about the turn of the decade. Different strokes for different folks, though. But back then, MIIRC was the best, as I recall... it's what I used. My problem was with IRC, not the client.

this flashchat thing was almost exactly like IRC, on say, efnet, you could just take on #SRP or #razortalk or whatever and then just make sure you have a bot idling that gives mod status to the correct people. That doesn't cost a thing.

What, exactly, is it that they would want to do once they got wherever they wanted to go? It doesn't make sense to me.

If there is not a short explaination, don't worry about wasting time to explain it to the dummy, here. It wouldn't be the first time I was confused about something.
