Thanked: 4249"Like and Thanks"
Why is it that when you get a "like" you get a notification but when you get a "thanks" you dont!
Also there a count of "thanks" under your name, but no idea where it came from?
And no "like" count but notification?

The "Thanks" count is how many times you have thanked other posts.
I don't know the reasons for all the other stuff, but I'd bet it's just to do with what the software we run can do. I'm sure someone who actually knows will be along shortly to correct me.

Well actually there two counts one for the thanks given and one for the thanks received.

Thanked: 1587I seem to recall this topic cropping up not that long ago, but cannot find the thread - perhaps I mis-recalled.
Anyway, my recollection was that it is indeed a software plugin/add-on issue - Vbulletin and the relevant "Thanks" add-on interaction no longer live in symbiotic harmony with the result that the listing of "Thanked" posts in the user area is, alas, no longer supported.
However, happily the "Like" people still get along with the forum software people, so we are able to see who liked what we wrote, and what was liked of what we wrote, thereby enabling us to tailor our posts (via a Darwin-esque evolutionary process I like to call "like-olution") to achieve the most likeable outcome for all concerned, whether you like it or not.
James.

I just wouldn't worry about it. Crappy software tends to die eventually, hopefully sooner rather than later, so better not get too attached to any 'feature'

I've been wondering this myself. I go with "Thanks" if it's informational and "Like" if it's interesting. If it's interesting and informational than both are applied.

As gugi pointed out, V-bulletin is the software used to run this site. In their last update, which we have no control over, they dispensed with the notification for 'thanks.' I don't know why they did but that is the word on the street. As Ivan said, they may bring it back on the next update. My workaround when I thank someone is to click both thanks and like. If they go to the post they'll know where the latest thanks came from along with the like.
