No harm no foul. Welcome to SRP, enjoy the learning curve and meet the posting requirements. Doing these things is the only way for us to get to know you and you to get to know us. Enjoy.

Thanked: 433The flip side to this is, some guy finds a box of razors in the attic, joins the forum and sells the non shave ready razors to newbies who now have a bad experience with their first razor and now have to spend more money getting it honed. The forum software can't tell a good forum user/seller like yourself from the example I just laid out. With the post count and or join date, the attic razor guy will go to Ebay where someone (at least I do) assumes the razors need honing.

Thanked: 247No harm, no foul.
And I would say (if anyone cares for my opinion) that post count and time in existence is almost NO indication of ethics at all. OTOH, there pretty much is no method I have seen that indicates that a first time seller is not going to screw you.
You bring up BladeForums (where I am quite active, and I pay for maker/dealer/service provider privileges). I have exactly 0.0 sales over there...yet, I have been a member for several years and have the (basically) highest level of paid membership available, and well over 5000 posts...and none of this should indicate much about my ethics...however, during that time/posts a lot of people have gotten to know me, and those guys would not hesitate to do business with me...
Simply put, there is no decent way to verify a seller. Having other members vet for you is equally problematic.
In the end, it is really simple...follow the rules of the address you are at, and hope for the best
edit to add...I hope my previous post did not come off jerk-ish. I get long winded and basically meant to say, "it is what it is, so deal wit it"Last edited by unit; 10-01-2012 at 05:43 PM.

Thanked: 1371As I understand it, the time limit isn't so much about verifying the quality of sellers as it is about preventing drive-by sellers.
The minimums don't necessarily have to be hit in the timeframe that's there - some members might take a year to post enough to earn classifieds priveleges. You don't have to post once per day - you just need to wait a little longer before you can use the classifieds, that's all.
As to other internet fora and what you see there - I think once you've been here awhile you'll realize that SRP is different than most other forums.
You don't see the high post count "ignore that guy" kind of trolls here. Everyone is very respectful of the other users. It is a gentleman's forum.
Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Seems pretty standard on quite a few forums I'm part of. Post a bit & hang around for a while before you can take advantage of some of the perks.

Thanked: 247I have been around long enough to see that much
This place is really quite amazing compared to the many other forums I have attended. There is only one other that I have seen where the majority of people actually conducted themselves as people and not fictitious internet persona's.

I am definitely coming to see the differences here... Stating that a place is for 'Gentlemen' sort of leaves a lot up for interpretation... What I'm seeing/experiencing here is more of a 'Jealous Guardianship Of An Initial Positive Experience"... Very, VERY cool compared to the typical 'Learn As Ya Go' type experiences that may be more common; or at least so to me.
Awesome! I get it and I'm back in line and understanding!
@ Unit... I was fairly active at Bladeforums late 90's for a few years under "EmanymTon" (.. I kinda like thw backwards name thing..) and got distracted by Guns (.. then Bicycles then Building Golf Clubs then Motorcycles/Choppers now Razors.. ..) as they were earlier into implementation of their tiered membership. Great place and I learned a ton!
That is kind of my thing... I pick up Hobbies, learn Skill Sets that I end up keeping as I move on but often sell off much or all of my stuff as I move to the next in order to fund that next interest. This is the first time I've augmented/created a Hobby out of something that was already a part of my existing routine so I can see this as a much longer lasting thing.
Very interesting... I learned a heckuva lot more than I intended with this Topic, that is for sure!
Edited to add... ONE thing I am definitely change is saving access for laptop rather than my phone... Y'all are a bit tough to keep up with on this tiny screen!
Thanks everyone... I really appreciate the info and learned a LlOoNnGg time ago not to worry so much about the delivery.Last edited by Prahston; 10-01-2012 at 08:05 PM. Reason: Errors

10-01-2012, 11:33 PM #28Further, I've been around intenet Forums for quite some time and one of the easiest ways to identify a Troll is High Post CountThe white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Yeah, I like to keep it minimalist.
