    Default identification forum

    HI guys,

I think it would be cool to have a forum dedicated to identifying razor, strop, hones etc.

    what do you guys think.

At first I thought no we don't need a separate forum for that - but the more I think about it the more I like it. It is the second most-asked question by newcomers to the forum (besides what is my razor worth) and it is a separate subject that everyone seems to love being involved in. It would also be a way to help people research on their own what they have in front of them. Instead of having to sift through razor clubs or the entire hone forum, they could search just that forum. Manah has basically devoted his SRP blog to compiling awesome info that would help people identify their stuff, and is chock full of historical info - but it's harder to find and doesnt show up like new posts in the forum do

But then again, maybe it is simply better to tag such threads with "identification" or some such word or continue to add that info to the historical areas of the wiki/library

As a new comer this would be great. I have 4 razors that I have bought but have no idea if they are good or not. I hate to ask because everyone does and I figured it would be annoying to the ones who know. But a single place to look would be great and much easier in my opinion (which I know counts for nothing ).

If I'm not mistaken we already have 37 forum sections. To me it seems that at this point creating more sections makes it harder not easier to find what you're looking for. As Lee pointed out proper tagging may be a better way to sort them out.

In any case I would very much like to see quantitative data - how many of these threads we currently have vs. the other ones in the same section (both the current weekly rate and the cumulative number over the past).

Nothing for nothing...I think an ID/Age/seeking info on this item sub forum would be fantastic....but only if there are some seriously knowledgeable members that are willing to monitor it and answer questions.

I have a razor that I would LOVE to have some info on, and I have no idea where to post the questions...I posted a long time ago in Show and Tell asking for info on the maker and got nothing...I have since conducted numerous searches on the web and still nothing. I would love to have a place to post what I have and let it "soak" until hopefully the right person comes along with some info regarding age for me.

I think it would be a great idea to have such a sub-forum...that said there are a lot of sub-forums that could potentially be merged...but things seem to work pretty well as is (in the couple months I have been active here)

At first thought I liked this idea but as I thought about it I think I agree with gugi that more sub formus probaly are not going to help. I think the razor clubs really do serve this purpose if that was made more prominent on the front page it may curb the question. But if not most people do look over the beginer forum so asking the question there seems best to me.
