    Default Restorers listing

I'd like to see a listing of individuals who restore straight razors for resale, along with their web site/contact info. It would benefit newbies looking for a less expensive, but still good quality, entry level razor.

The Member Services and Classified sections aren't really what I'm thinking. I guess a better description would be a listing of suppliers of restored razors. For example, I used to have a link to a web page for a guy (in Texas I think) who's sole business was selling razors he'd restored; he did a good job, and was reasonably priced (alas, I can't recall the URL). There have to be more like him out there.

As for eBay, I've used it in the past and bought everything from a decent razor that just needed a little polishing and a quick hone to absolutely worthless rust buckets (just for the scales), but a newbie can't really rely on eBay - too much junk (and too many less than honest sellers).

Check out the "Vendor's Corner" forum. I think you'll find what you're looking for.

You can also look at members profiles, they will have links to their ebay accounts as well, if they have them. Some will put some for sell here and some on ebay, if I remember right they can't put the same razor on both unless it is buy now only, no bidding per forum rules. Correct me if I'm wrong anybody. Remember too, when you buy from guys around here it's a razor that was worked by hand one at a time, and not on a line going as fast as they can. So even if it is a bit more expensive than say a factory Dovo or even a TI, you're getting craftsmanship attention to detail, and a blade that you KNOW will weather time and use. Just my thoughts. Also, a lot of the guys who do restore work for a job don't JUST do that, they are usually blade makers, machinists, or other metal workers, or other walks of life. Many of the guys here have regular day jobs. It's a hobby to restore, and a labor of love so to speak. If you were to think you would do this and make thousands a year...well, you'd have to be pumping out some serious numbers of razors. Most of the funds usually go to buy more equipment, materials, and fund the next project...not to pay the bills. My $.02

Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

On a related note, I wouldn't mind seeing a simple, periodically updated list of all the members in the vendor usergroup in a sticky in the vendor forum

Even better, this could be dynamically generated by the software just like Show Groups - Straight Razor Place Forum

Only a matter of somebody with basic programming skills and desire to do something useful, writing the code to do it

I do not think SRP is interested in simply promoting random people who 'restore straight razors for resale'. On the face of it it may sound like something useful, but the reality is that a lot of those 'restorers' are incompetent hacks, some of them are dishonest and abusive and have been banned from this forum, some continue to work against us.

One of the main strengths of SRP is that this is a community where newbies who are interested in this hobby get enormous amount of help completely for free by those who are more experienced. Including extremely cheap or even free razors of high quality.
I think this format works very well because we have a lot of senior members who have bought into the vision and have posted more than 10 times in 2.5 years.

Or hey, we could just ask the show groups list to include the vendor usergroup and link to that. That wouldn't even require any codewriting, just someone with permissions to check a box on the right page

Nope, vendors shouldn't be mixed up with moderators and mentors, their functions are completely different.
