Default Monday - 11_Dec_06 Site Down for Maintenance

    - - - WARNING - - - WARNING - - - WARNING - - - WARNING

    Ok Will Robinson...

We'll be taking the entire site down for the next series of upgrades on Monday, 11-Dec. I expect we'll start about 0930-ish Eastern time.

For those prone to suffering withdrawal symptoms, this might be an excellent opportunity to go shopping for those holiday gifts for that special someone... or maybe take the kids skating. But sitting by the computer repeatedly clicking the bookmark to the site will only aggravate your carpal tunnel problem

If we don't get stuck in the chimney (and you leave cookies and milk... ahhh make that Johnny Walker for David) when you wake up Tuesday morning there'll be a whole new look to the site.

Oh... and PS -- If you hang stockings make sure Raquel is in them

    Default Preparatory changes

Just an FYI... I noticed the site was down around 5pm MST today... I don't know why. Must have been a host hiccup.

Also, starting tonight, I'll be making some changes that I can do w/o taking anything off-line. This will reduce the time the site is down on Monday, so I hope you don't mind some minor confusion during the interim. Sorry for any inconveniences this may cause.

Default Changes Made, Notes, Instructions, etc.

I thought it would be a good idea to note changes made as I make them... this will cover changes made on both the main site and the forum. I'll sticky this for now so you can quickly refer to it if needed.

    1. added a red style to the Forum. This style includes the new-look forum header in preparation for other changes that will be made Monday. 9-dec@9:17pm
    2. added new-look headers to the steel green, steel blue, and smart brown styles. Thanks to Nenad (aka superfly) for these! 9-dec@9:45pm
    3. disabled member "Ranks" on the Forum... so, no more "honemeister"! 9-dec@9:50pm
    4. for registered members, I turned on the Forum's ability to allow you to create your own "Title" in your usercp... so, for those that don't like 'member', 'sr. member', etc., change em! Note: Moderators, Admins, etc are unchanged. 9-dec@9:52pm

Joe...you can't do that! I mean, afterall, how can I now say, "No, I'm no honemeister...but I play one at SRP!"?

I appreciate your hard work and efforts for the forum!

Something you may want to look at, the forums look fine under firefox but the message portion is way to wide. I have to scroll left and right to see the whole message. It happens reading a new PM or even replying to a message such as this one. This is firefox on Linux so who knows...

As far as I know, at least at one point we had everything working and aligned correctly so that Firefox and IE under Windows both displayed the site correctly (don't know about under Linux). Then, of course, we immediately changed some things (eg, added google ads)... so the main site is somewhat screwed up again.

We'll get it all straight in a day or two. Meanwhile, if you view the forums directly via www.straightrazorplace.com/forums/ all should work correctly.

Yeah, I don't know. I am running on a laptop with a smaller screen (Sony VAIO, I think 13.4 inches) running at 1280x800. When I look at the forums page, the top most forum is correctly sized. The rest are too wide and scroll off the screen. The same goes for the PM module and when I click Post Reply, the reply module. I don't know if your resizing code isn't playing nicely (it doesn't seem to resize everything) or what. If I click on wide screen, then everything looks the same size. It is like some parts aren't seeing the default size or decrease size code. Kind of annoying, but I definitely like the look of the site much better.

Edit: Also, it isn't like my screen is filled up. The right most 6 inches or so aren't displaying anything but the pretty shaded border (The right side is almost twice that of the left) The result is that what I am seeing as correctly sized, is only 8 inches or so across.

The forum makes extensive use of javascript... could that be the problem... are you running recent version js?
