Editing posts
It seems that after a few days (hours?) you can't edit your posts on SRP. This can be a bit annoying especially when you find one of your posts after a long time with spelling errors and other inaccuracies.
Other sites that use the same forum software allow you to edit (even full edits) your own posts at any time in the future.
So, can we enable this on SRP as well please?

It won't. If you read my post again you'll see that I wasn't only referring to spelling and grammar.
So if I tell you I think 'XYZ soap doesn't lather very well' one day I may see something different with it later on and choose to change that comment.
Hope I'm making sense...

Thanked: 603As I see it, the problem is that other members will read your posts, and often reply to them. If you edit your posts, you run the risk of rendering their responses moot (although the full spectrum runs from the sublime to the ridiculous). It's like time travel: If you go back in Time and shtup your grandmother, you might end-up being your sister!

This used to be the case until about 4 years ago, and then there were problems with members abusing the indefinite edits, so for the last 4 years there has been only a short window during which posts can be edited (I think it's a day or two).
It's not a matter of the capabilities of the software, but what we think is a good configuration that works, i.e. flexible enough for usual tasks, but at the same time restrictive enough to prevent abuse.
I would say that the content that's worth keep improving on should live in the library/wiki and there it can be edited indefinitely.

I'd be fibbing to say that I do not edit often (I do), but I like that you can NOT edit after a while. It's more like real life and that is why I like this place...people seem to think before they speak and they (like gentlemen) realize that you cannot un-say things in real life.

We all need to remember that the Internet is 'forever' . Learned that when I looked up a topic on Google and to my surprise... My Posting of a year before came up as a offering!!!
