Thanked: 433Scamming in Classifieds?
Has anyone run across this before? I just received two offers worded exactly the same from two different email addresses with slightly different prices. It strikes me as suspicious

When I've been suspicious of a communication for a classifieds ad I always ask the sender what their SRP screen name is.

I wouldn't call email solicitations scamming, however you probably want to contact a moderator with the details. If you need my email address to forward these emails just PM me.

Its a common occurrence on a ham radio forum that I visit. Scumbags love to scam honest people out of their hard earned money.

Thanked: 1587I'm not sure how such a scam would work. Surely if you are the seller you do not post your item out until and unless the money clears and you've taken possession of it first?
Or am I hopelessly naive in these matters?

Thanked: 433If you don't protect yourself, someone could say they didn't get the item and demand paypal do a return. The person now has their money back and your item. Always use tracking, signature and insurance on big ticket items

It always seems like murky water. Sometimes very dark, sometimes not so bad.
One that turned out fairly well - 'Had PMs from a member, advertising his ebay offerings. I asked him not use PM to market me. He responded well - sorry, won't happen again. There's been no recurrence, so it seems to have worked.
Jimmy: asking the screen name is a really smart thing - I do that also, and it seems to clear the water pretty quickly.
