Thanked: 14Leaving SRP?
Hello
I wanted to "un"-register and delete my account here at SRP; how does one do that? I could find no obvious path out the door.

The little red X in the upper right corner. Hope that helps.

Thanked: 1587Contact a moderator. Or else as Gary says, just leave and don't bother to log back in. The account will remain but it doesn't represent much of a security risk.
Farewell and Godspeed.

Thanked: 375Dave, I'm really not sure, you may want to contact a Mod. I was looking under my account settings and didn't find anything. I know they have a place you can unsubscribe from threads in settings you may have subscribed to. Sorry to see you leaving, wish you well!

Thanked: 1184Reminds me of a song. SRP is like Hotel California.
Make sure you back up all data first and put all pictures and contacts in a separate folder on another hard drive if possible. Run a complete registry scan to find the root kit this program downloaded while you read the "user agreement". A bandwidth test is not required but highly advisable (you may see a increase in bandwidth). Go to System Restore and go back to a date before you joined SRP. Delete everything after that date. If none of this works just remove the short cut from your desk top and hope no one posts anything ever again. A change of e-mail address might also help.
Sorry to see you go .Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

We don't do that, for a couple of reasons.
First, sometimes people leave, and then come back. Deleting their account in between would be a hassle.
Second, it would leave orphaned data in the database (data which is not linked to master records) which is generally a very bad idea. We could solve this by deleting everything linked to you, but we don't do that because of number 3.
Third, balefire creates more problems than it solves (wheel of time reference). If we not only delete you, but also all of your posts, we'd still run into problems. Because threads in which you ever replied would unravel. Parts of the discussion would no longer make sense to the person reading them next. And if it was only you, that would not be too bad, but if more people ask to be deleted when they leave, older threads would slowly disintegrate.
For these 3 reasons, we don't do that.
If you no longer feel like participating, just stop logging in.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
