Thread: Slow to load?

For the past two weeks I've had trouble with the system. When I click on a topic it loads the top part, and the little thingy on the bottom left says done, then after about 20 seconds it starts to load. This happens every time I try to open a topic, link etc.

Sorry but apart from turning on a computer I have no idea so my explaination of whats happening is pretty bad.

This only happens on SRP, any clues?

I have not noticed the problem, nor have I heard of anyone else having a problem, so I don't have a ready answer for you.

Do you know specifically when it started doing this? The last changes made to the site were on 1/13 which is only a week ago. What, if any, changes have been made to your computer... eg, did you change any options in your browser (eg, disable java, change caching options, change image load options, etc.), did you install any new programs, did automatic update do anything (like install IE7 or a new java version), etc.? What browser and operating system are you using?

I know that I was posting a reply, and tried to insert a link, and I got the yellow bar across the top of the screen asking if I wanted to enable something (sorry, I'm not that computer savvy) to allow the site to do its thing - that was real close to the beginning of my issues, I think.

Well, I'm posting this using IE7 as the browser. The first time I loaded the site using IE7 was extrememly slow. After that it was faster (obviously using cached graphics, etc.) but still slow... much slower than I remember IE6 being, and lots slower than Firefox 2.

I did some googling to see if there was a know IE7 problem/fix, but I didn't find any smoking guns. The IE vs FF browser warriors are at each other hot and heavy, so it's hard to tell fact from fantasy. It seems there is an issue related to IE7 inability to handle sites using AJAX technology as efficiently as Firefox... and the Forum does use AJAX features quite a bit, but my gut tells me the delays I saw were longer than would be expected of that type of problem alone. I also saw comments that indicated users could disable the phishing settings in IE7 to get better performance... you IE7 users might try turning that off and see if it helps (go to "tools/phishing filter" and make sure you select having it turned off). Let me know what you find.
