Thanked: 2284My Redleaf order is on its way. I'll post again when I've tried it. My friend says he can get tons of lather from his Redleaf soap. He uses a Vie-Long horse hair brush.

Thanked: 0TXpipecarver, I do use Olive Oil in my shave soaps. I re-checked my listing for that soap on my site, and I saw that the ingredients list is not shown in the order the ingredients are added which they should be. My error, and that has been corrected to reflect the order of ingredients based on quantity used. Olive Oil is the 5th ingredient after several other oils. It's been my experience that Olive Oil is not a good base for a shaving soap mostly because it just doesn't create a quality lather. Thanks drawing my attention to that listing so I could make that change, and best of luck to you in your soap making endeavors! -Chris (Link back to the corrected listing Mens Travel Shave Soap / Vegan Mens Wet Shaving Soap / Red Leaf Natural Bath and Body Seattle, WA.)

Thanked: 0Hey TXpipecarver, No not at all, I appreciated your post. It made me take a closer look at the listing which I quickly realized needed to be corrected. Olive Oil in shaving soap is not an uncommon ingredient, but you'll more typically find it as a 4th, 5th, or even 6th ingredient but not as a base which is what my listing appeared to be saying. And you were correct in your comment regarding Olive Oil in shaving soap. I appreciated your post, thanks!

Thanked: 0I know this thread is kind of old, but I was wondering how you all felt about shaving soap sampler packs? Someone suggested several months ago that I offer several shaving soap samples in different scents so buyers could check out the scents and the soaps. So I came up with a sample pack of 8 soaps at 2 Oz's each. But I'm not sure it's really a good idea and I thought posting here would provide some qualified feedback on the issue. Good idea, or should I discontinue this item? Input much appreciated!

Thanked: 270About a month ago I took all sampler packs plus unused portions of soap that had accumulated over the past four years, ground them up with a cheese grater, and put them together in one bowl. I call it Mystery Soap. Works well, cleaned up a little clutter.

I would say its a good idea, I have gotten samples from other Artisans to see if the scent was to my liking before I committed. Tc

I agree with the others. I really like companies that offer samples. I don't feel so bad about a bad purchase if I don't care for it. I also use the samples in 2oz containers as travel soaps an creams. I travel a good bit for work an they work out great in my dop bag. I purchased a expensive tub of cream a while back because I couldn't find it in a sample. HATED it! Nothing about it worked for me. I have since sent it on its way to someone else. So yes samples are good!

Thanked: 0Thanks for the above replies, really appreciate it. I've decided to keep my sample sets, and I'll be expanding that line. If I was thinking of trying a new product I would definitely want to try a sample first, glad to see that its a general consensus. Thanks again gents!

As a new guy to using shaving soap, I really like the idea of sample packs. For 30 years I thought shaving cream only came in cans and smelled like limes or menthol. Now I'm buying all sorts of scented soaps. I hate getting a big puck of something that I end up not liking the scent or feel or lather. I still use it for hand soap even if I don't like it, but I don't feel as bad doing it with a sample puck size.
