    Default Marlborough

I'm trying to figure out if I want to spend the $30 for a DR Harris Marlborough at some point and am trying to gauge the scent. People usually describe it as woodsy with cedarwood and sandalwood.

Is it similar to TOBS sandlewood or maybe eton college perhaps?

Also, is there much difference between the cream and soap?

I use the soap and its a great lathering soap. It provides excellent glide and cushion. It's a feat performer. As for the scent, I find it less perfumey than TOB or T&H. The scent seems more natural and less synthetic.

The scent is completly different of TOBS sandalwood or eton college and more nutural, as OCDshaver comments.
It smells like cedarwood with some light tones tabaco.
I have the soap (which is top performer), the ASL and the Cologne. My first choice for the winter.

While harrygr likes this scent in winter, I think you'll find that it never overpowers you with its strength. Many fragrances, be it in a cream/soap or cologne, can build up on you quickly. Marlborough does not do that. Its great in the winter but its also great in the summer. The replacement puck of soap is only $15 if I'm not mistaken.

    Gentlemen:

I find the Harris Marlborough shave soap superb in every way. It lathers well, with plenty of moisture, and the cushion and the glide are fine. The scent, a blend of cedar, moss and sandalwood is mild and pleasant. I have soap in the wooden bowl with an additional replacement puck in my stash, because the soap is a keeper.

And the Cologne is a great scent to boot!

I meant that I don't like it during the ...Greek summer of 30-35 or even 40 degrees Celsius during mid day! But you are right with Marlborough I don't have the same "heavy" scent feeling I get with other products (eg Tabac). It is "manly" but elegant.

when in doubt, get the shaving stick, or the refill if a stick is not available. a Dr Harris stick is only 50g, much cheaper and a good way to try out a new scent. a refill let's you check the soap without paying for the fancy bowl. if you like it you can get the bowl when you refill next time. if you don't like it, you won't need the bowl anyway...
I have the stick and will definitely be getting another Marlborough, though due to counter space shortage will probably get a refill I can store in a sealable, stackable container :-)

    have fun

Could not tell you about the scent of Marlborough but if it is like Arlington it will be mild/weak compared to Tabac in strength. Again, if it is like the Arlington it will lather easily and provide a real good lather. I would get the refill and put it in a Pyrex container ASR Endorses: Pyrex Soap Storage Container | ASR . Not as nice looking but works for me and you save a ton with the refill running about 18 bux in Canada.
