So I talked to the owner of the L.A.Shaving Co and he is sending me samples of his vegan Bay Rum Shaving Soap, he told me it was in the mail today, can't wait to try it out I'll let you guys know how it performs.

Let us know how it does... My understanding is that he reverse engineered the Martin de Candre ingredients, or at least tried to, and got good results. The main difference was the scent, though some said it was close but not exact in terms of performance.

Somewhere on here there's a thread cosperryan started about making his own soap. In it, someone posted the steps neccessary to make the same soap. As a matter of fact, the owner of LA shaving Soap posted his ingredients and methods step-by-step, too. I'm planning on trying my hand using this recipe in the near future, as it doesn't look too complicated to make.

I like that he uses real essential oils. His ingredients list for his new Bay Rum look amazing. I'll definitely keep you posted. Anxious for it to get here.

Ok so I got my Santa Monica Bay Rum in from L.A. Shaving Soap Company and before I write a detailed encounter with it, I'm going to try different techniques, different amounts of water, different ways to lather etc. To see how it performs in different situations. Let me just say the scent is amazing/divine. Right out of the container it screams Bay Rum, not clovey at all, it's just Bay oil right in your nose, Once I lathered it up the room exploded with Bay oil, hints of orange, and of course rum. When I say the room exploded I mean that in a good way. It's a very pleasant scent and it sets the mood for a luxurious shave. After shaving it leaves hints of Bay Rum on your skin that slowly fades to a crisp clean soapy scent, very pleasant indeed. You can really tell that John the owner uses real essential oils and doesn't skimp on the fragrance.

Dood... I'm chomping at the bit to hear how it lathers. If it does at least as well as my VDH luxury, then I'd consider going through and making it using John's recipe since cost would be pretty low and I could customize the scent to my liking.

I'm definitely not touching that dial on this one...
