Palmolive Crema da Barba Rinfrescante al Mentolo
Palmolive Crema da Barba Rinfrescante al Mentolo
(Palmolive Menthol Refreshing Shaving Cream)
Producer: Colgate-Palmolive, New York, USA (made in Anzio, Rome - Italy)
Type: Shaving Cream
INCI (List of Ingredients): acqua, stearic acid, glicerin, potassium hydroxide, coconut acid, cocos nucifera oil, sodium hydroxide, parfum, menthol, tocopheryl acetate, sodium silicate, potassium chloride, citral, limonene, linaool, CI 42090
Very good ingredients, except for parfum, non better specified and therefore of unknown origin, Score: 9
Pakage: Cardboard box containing an aluminum tube, Score: 9
Quantity: 100ml (3.40 floz)
Smell: Mainly of menthol with hints of classic talcum powder, not very strong, Score: 8
Lather: I used about 2 centimeters of cream (a little less than one inch) and mounted in a bowl. The cream does not seem to mount easily and it takes some time before it starts developing an acceptable amount of lather. The brush was well soaked in water, something usually enough for most of creams, but not in this case, I needed to add some water drops during all the mounting process. At the end, it makes a good quantity of lather - enough for more than three passes - and bubbles seems to be uneven, with occasionally large sized bubbles, acceptable water retention, Score: 7
Shaving: The best sensation of this cream is the refreshing effect you have on the skin during the entire pass. It is however quite creamy and fat, the razor can easily slide on the skin, no sign of irritation or dryness, Score: 9
Conclusion: A good cream but not my favorite one. It is evident this is an industrial shaving cream which is however not so bad for belonging to this category. The refreshing sensation is still perceivable at the end of the shave and this is, in my opinion, the best quality of this cream. I would say it is perfect for summertime because of this. However, no sign of irritation at the end of the shave and no sign of dryness, Score 7The RazorGuy - StraightRazorChannel on Youtube and Google+

I picked up a tube of this very same cream during my trip to Italy this past June. Pretty much the same as your experience, I'm not too crazy about it but I still use it once in a while. I also go a tube of Gillette menthol cream which is similar. Both products have a strange chemical smell in the background.

Once again, I am glad your experience is similar to what I wrote. As for the smell of this cream and Gillette menthol, I do agree on the fact they are quite the same and, yes, a scent recalling some chemical elements in them. Their price is very cheap but, in my opinion, for that price range you can get a better product.

razorguy, I find your reviews very helpful. Although some of the products you review are beyond my reach, I have been using your reviews to learn what to look for in a soap/cream. Thanks!
By the way, how do I find your channel on youtube?

Thank you very much indeed for your appreciation. I am sorry some of the products I review cannot be found in the US (I guess this is the reason why they are beyond your reach) although I guess this Palmolive cream can also be found in your country as the maker is located there.
I of course plan to review more soaps and creams, hopefully being of your interest and getting your appreciation. Thank you!
Here it is my channel on YoutTube: StraightRazorChannel - YouTube
There are not much videos to watch yet but I plan to post more in the future. At the moment you can watch the only video I made about Mastro Livi making a damascus steel billet and from it making my kamisori. The video is in Italian language with English subtitles. Enjoy!
The video is also posted here: http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...ml#post1181255 in case you want to leave a comment about it. Thank you.The RazorGuy - StraightRazorChannel on Youtube and Google+

You might be surprised to know that in Canada at least the only place I can get Palmolive shave cream and shave sticks are from two online supply stores. I have not seen it in stores for many years. Maybe the situation is the same in the US, I don't know. The Palmolive sold online is European origin IIRC.

This is interesting. As Colgate-Palmolive is an US company, I supposed it was easy to find it on the other side of the ocean. Here in Italy it is very easy to find it in shops, maybe for the fact this company has a factory near Rome.

Thanked: 3225I guess they just don't think there is enough of a market in North America to bother making or selling it here.

I am going to check out your channel tonight razorguy. Thanks for the link.
The only real soaps/creams I see at grocery stores and pharmacies are Williams and VDH. I once saw Burma Shave at Wal-Mart @ 1998. I agree with Bob about Palmolive not thinking the North American market is worth their time.
Update: I found Palmolive for sale online from a US vendor. They had a stick and two tubes. The description for one of the tubes says it is a favorite in European drugstores. I suspect these items are made for the European market and not widely available in N. America.Last edited by Leatherstockiings; 08-19-2013 at 01:03 AM. Reason: Addendum

Thanked: 3225It must have been worth their while at one time as I vaguely recall seeing it in stores many years ago.
