Proraso Sapone da Barba "Ciotola Verde" Nuova Formula
(Proraso "Green Tub" Shaving Soap New Formula)

    Producer: Ludovico Martelli, Florence, Italy

    Type: Shaving Soap.

INCI (List of Ingredients): Aqua, Stearic acid, Cocos nucifera oil, Potassium hydroxide, Sodium hydroxide, Glycerin, Lactic acid, Sodium lauroyl sacrosinate, Menthol, Camphor, Eucalyptol, Eucalyptus globulus leaf oil, Pentaerythrityl tetra-di-t-butyl hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Sodium xydroxymethylglycinate, Geraniol, Parfum

In regard to the "old formula", all the parabens have been removed - and this is good, of course - although, in my opinion this soap has some disputable ingredients, such as Pentaerythrityl tetra-di-t-butyl hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Sodium hydroxymethylglycinate and, to a lesser extent, Hydroxyethylcellulose. Even Parfum is not better specified, therefore of unknown origin, Score: 7

Pakage: Plastic tub, very functional and handy, Score: 9

    Quantity: 150ml (5.2oz)

Smell: Not really the same as the old formula. This one seems to be milder and less "balsamic", in favor of other scents, such as geraniol, however smelling like "Proraso", Score: 8

Lather: It makes a pretty good quantity of lather with just around 30 seconds of brush loading. The new formula seems to hold a higher quantity of water (and this is good, of course) however making a moderately slick and moderately fat lather, in my opinion, these two characteristics being less effective than the old formula. Bubbles are quite small although of uneven size and you can also spot some large bubbles as well, Score: 8

Shaving: The soap gives the "typical" Proraso freshness to the skin, quite refreshing and pleasing. The razor can easily slide, although not all the time, and does not seem to have a good creamy consistency, no sign of lather dryness or irritation, Score: 7

Conclusion: I still consider this soap to be a good one when compared to its cheap price, but however not the best Italy can offer. The moisturizing effect is good but not excellent, the razor can easily slide on the skin, although showing some friction in certain spots. The best quality of this soap, in my opinion, is the fresh sensation you get at the end of shaving, quite refreshing as usual. A good soap for its price, but not so good, Score: 7

    razorguy, Thanks for the review.
I was surprised the new formula did score higher. Still, the Proraso cream is one of my favorites even before the price is factored in.

Compared to price, it is a good soap for sure, however, in my opinion, it is not the best.
It lacks that slickness and creaminess other soaps usually have and make, in my opinion, a difference.
I have always had in my shave den a tub of Proraso since the day I began shaving, and I guess I will always have one.
But, once again, in my opinion there are better soaps and cream around.
