Thanked: 45Prehsave oil & Lather question
Do preshave oils effect lather? I shaved last Friday for the first time using a pre-shave oil. The lather was P-160. The pre-shave oil consists of Jojoba, EVO, Caster, Sweet Almond & Vetiver EO. I noticed the P-160 did not lather that well on the 2nd & 3rd pass. Usually the stuff makes crazy lather.
Today, I shaved again, using the pre-shave & Jabonman. Jabonman always produces lots of thick lather, but today it was thin and dissipated quickly on the third pass. The only change is practice is the pre-shave oil. Anyone else having this issue?

I have have problems lathering on the 2nd and 3rd pass, however I don't think it is because of my preshave oil. When I use oil I lather fine on the first pass, however I think that the whiskers help the lather process on pass #1. On the second and third pass with little to no whiskers there is little "scruff" on my face making it more difficult to lather. I find myself "painting" on the lather for my second and third pass.

In my limited experience, when I use a preshave oil (I'm starting not to, though I did when I first started shaving with a straight) I will lather fine on the first pass. I don't apply any preshave oil again except for the hollows of my neck, and even then, only on my ATG pass.
It does take me a little longer to lather, but I can still get good, thick, creamy lather all over on my third pass, even with the oil."Willpower and Dedication are good words," Roland remarked, "There's a bad one, though, that means the same thing. That one is Obsession." -Roland Deschain of Gilead
