Rhubarb is a red slightly tart sweet vegetable(i think (about it being a vegetable rather than a fruit I mean)), it looks a lot like celery, and you generally use it stewed in deserts such as pies, or served with custard.

And don't forget, the leaves are poisonous so DON'T use them in salads or cook like spinach.

Just out of curiosity, how many shaves are you giving each cream before posting a review?

    Two

Several of the samples I received look only large enough to accommodate 2 lathers, so I figure that seems like a good test number.

I'm no expert reviewer, it's just for fun.

Perhaps after the nth shave I would unlock some secrets, but I just don't have that luxury...and the ones that really impress me on the first shave or two will likely earn additional shaves (and I will perhaps do follow ups in those if there is interest).

To be sure, no review could ever substitute for actual first hand experience, but perhaps some of my blather will help someone narrow their search a bit...or result in someone trying something they wouldn't otherwise. I have had a few surprises already

Interesting review on the GF Lime. I use it and the Xpec to judge all other suds against at the moment for both big suds and cushion.

    Have fun.

Goes very nicely with strawberries too!

I honestly never would have guessed someone would think to make a rhubarb shave cream. Interesting...

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

I have still been collecting more "data". I am still putting together notes. Some I have tried since my last installment have given me pause (I may need to do several shaves to figure out how to get the more from them...either that or I got a bad sample).

I shaved with CF Lime again and mixed it a bit wetter. The results were similar to before (good on all points, but not a woower for me). It's really good stuff, I'm just saying that *I* do not prefer it over some lower or similar priced (per ounce) creams I have tried.

I expect opinions will vary, and hopefully everyone understands that my reviews (like most) are subjective.

More to come for anyone interested.

    Default unit's shaving cream reviews

    Edwin Jagger Aloe Vera.

I only had the small sample tin of this but it came with an even smaller sample of the aftershave balm; so I used them together. Well, not together, I used them separately for their intended purposes during a single shave (actually I got 3 shaves from this set).

In truth, I think a guy would be well served to aim for two or less shaves because my efforts to use less product really hampered its performance. Which brings me to my first small critique of this one: it seems that slightly more product is required to get the volume of lather I am accustomed to (this is, as always in this thread, as related to AOS shaving cream).

While you may need slightly more product, it lathers up easily into a nice froth, that once you get right, seems to have all the properties I like. I say this, because the first two attempts were mixed a bit thin and the lather was runny...it still performed wonderfully, but was a little messy.

Once I got the mix right, it was evident why some guys would really love this (rather spendy, in my opinion) cream. It has great volume, cushion, and just the right amount of glide. That is to say there is enough slickness to give a comfortable shave, and even enough to allow for a 'wet touch up pass', but not so slick/greasy that I cannot get a grip for stretching.

This 'wet touch up pass' is something I use when I want full on BBS. Basically, after my final pass, I splash on just a bit of water and faceturbate/shave the scritchy bits. EJ seems to facilitate this sort of thing well.

One thing I noticed on all three shaves was the first pass seemed not as close. Perhaps this may be a variable of my beard thickening this time if year (it is getting colder lately)...or perhaps that theory is oral diarrhea? Regardless the first pass, though very comfortable, left stubble that I could see, but it was cleaned up nicely with the second pass.

The scent of this cream is fairly subtle. I'm not going to attempt to explain it, but suffice to say it is subtle and not offensive to me.

I assume that this stuff actually contains aloe. Perhaps not, and this is placebo, but it felt soothing to my face...so much so that on one shave I applied it after my final pass and rinsed it off. It seemed to offer a slight cooling effect, but not as remarkable as a true aloe aftershave product (no surprise, as I do not believe this cream is touted to work as a post shave treatment as far as I know, but in a pinch it might work for me in this capacity). I suppose if I really wanted to travel light (hard to imagine having room for a straight, but not for a tiny vial of AS...but...) I could get by with just this cream.

In review of the price and quantity one receives for that price, I'd put this cream up there pretty high on the scale and consider it priced well into the "luxury" area of the spectrum. Compound that with the fact that I had to use a slightly larger than 'almond-sized' amount of the product and I feel the cost per shave is really up there.

This is another product I really like until I have to contemplate paying for it. In review:

It may need more time than the minute or two I gave it to soften my beard (I lather, strop, then shave). This was a non issue as I got great shaves with the same number of passes.

It has a slight soothing effect

It has a subtle (fairly neutral) scent to me

It has a price point that suggests diminishing marginal utility to me. (In other words, I like it better than my standard, but probably not enough to overcome the price per shave difference).

As always, these opinions do not necessarily reflect the views or mileage of this forum, its members, moderators, and lurkers. The only way to know if I am full of frog-piss is to pony up for a sample and see for your self. There are a few things we might all agree on, but value is often very subjective. Pennies per gram is pretty definite, but some guys see a sawbuck as coffee-drink and tip on the way to work, while others see it as dinner for his family of 5 If you could drop a double sawbuck and never notice, try this one

    Penhaligon's Endymion shaving cream--revisited.

Nothing new to add except to say that after trying a few other creams then going back to this one, I really appreciate this stuff.

I mentioned in the review above that this seemed to allow me to shave closer. I felt compelled to say this again. This cream allowed me to accomplish in two passes what most creams allow for with three. While it is expensive...I might seriously make some sacrifices in the future to afford more of it

As always, opinions may/will/do vary. For example, I called SWMBO into the den to sample the smell of this cream and she sniffed, sniffed again, looked at me as if to ask why I requested her opinion, then sniffed again, shrugged and walked out (obviously not impressed).
