Thanked: 1184I use a bowl because for me it makes the lather the way it's supposed to a lot easier. I say supposed to because from all the vids I have seen by cream makers that is the suggested method. For me it's easier to add more water or cream till the mixture is right. Plus you can add other things to it to get an uber lather. Something I don't need but you may want to play it. We may see links from other manufactures now that I said that but that's just my short experience with it. In my opinion creams make a nicer lather in most cases but it takes more time. I use it when I have the time. 90% of the time I just say puck it. :<0)
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

After reading the posts on this subject, I face lathered some CO Bigelow. I put it directly on my damp brush, and worked it right into my face. I did 3 passes, and only added a little water on the 2nd and 3rd passes. I feel as though I got a very smooth shave, as good or possibly better than when I make uberlather. It's a little hard for me to determine, because I just shaved last night. Usually I go 2 or 3 days in between shaves. I will have to try again when I have a few days growth built up.

I do both. Lately I've been face lathering more though.
When bowl lathering, don't get too caught up on filling the bowl with lather.
I forget where I heard this but when bowl lathering, remember this: build the lather for the brush, not the bowl.

Thanked: 1195One thing I will not do is swirl a wet brush in a tub of cream, for two reasons: so the water will not turn my creams into a soupy mess and to avoid the possibility of mould. So for me it makes the most sense to use a snurdler and a bowl. Plus, as 10Pups pointed out, it seems to be the best way to make sure your mixture is perfect BEFORE applying the lather to your face.

More of a soap guy myself, but I use creams from time to time. When I do, I bowl lather always. Mostly because I'm a gadget guy and always like to have a reason to get more gear!

I personally use both face and bowl. In my own experience I find there are soaps/creams which seem to give better results with face lathering and others when mounted in a bowl. To me, what really makes a difference is the quantity of water used, and every soap/cream has its own "perfect" quantity.

Thanked: 23Face. Never have seen the need for bowl lathering. Just my preference.
