Thread: I'm number one!

I too will start testing tomorrow. I've been at a conference all week, so don't know when the package arrived.
I tend to agree that posting all of our comments (particularly first impressions) may bias others. However, I am interested in what others think. Kind of like in wine tasting or scotch nosing (yes, that is the proper term for sampling scotch), it is possible to learn quite a bit from hearing others opinions. Often, I've found it difficult to pick out individual tastes or smells until someone else mentions or describes them. Then they are recognizable. Sort of like hearing a chord in music; without training is may be difficult or impossible to pick out the component notes. What I'm getting at is that I think we should decide upon a lag time and then be free to discuss these products. What say ye testers and soapmistress?
Cheers,
Ed

Good Morning Gentlemen!
Gosh, everyone must have been receiving things whilst I was at my other little job. This is great! I was wondering this morning when I woke up if folks were receiving their samples.
It seems like FedX has a pretty good turn around time for ground service. I'm still a little unclear but it seems like they want to charge me an additional fee for the pick-up (haven't had time to read my packet yet) but the driver told me I could get around that by taking future items to their drop off terminal out by the airport, that I didn't even know existed, so still learning from this too.
Clarman it will be interesting to see the difference in delivery time for your second box that is traveling ground courtesy of USPS.
RichZ...I'm glad that Joe always has the good sense to post his wonderful links about all the scents....LOL.... When I first started learning about AS/AS balms/AS Milks/ AS Tonics, it all became just a little more than confusing to me as well.
I have not looked at the links that Joe posted so this is just my opinion right off the top of my understanding of the difference between AS and Cologne
From my point as the maker or the person formulating....the biggest difference between an AS and a Cologne is the percentage of alcohol and the percentage of Essential oil or Fragrance used.
Aftershave can be no or low alcohol....with very low concentrations of EO's or FO's. This is why they are typically less expensive. At the other end of the spectrum you have a fine Cologne.....using a high percentage of the professional grade alcohol and a high percentage of EO or FO, up to 20%
For the Colognes you've received...they are around 20%. All perfumer's have a scale to go by.....but it is only a guideline, its also true that 20% of the "Cavendish Black" is not the same as 20% of the "Desert Ironwood". This is one of the reasons why I feel that testing is so very helpful, as you help me to gauge the correct strength.
This also applies to AS and everything that runs between. What follows is a typical scale for percentages.
Perfumes & Colognes
EO- 15%-20% Alcohol - 70%-85% Distilled Water - 5%-10%
Eau de Cologne
EO- 12%-17% Alcohol - 78%-88% Distilled Water - 10%-15%
Eau de Toilette
EO- 5%-10% Alcohol - 75%-80% Distilled Water - 15%
Aftershave
EO- 2%-5% Alcohol - 75%-83% Distilled Water - 15%-20%
Linen Spray
EO- 3%-7% Alcohol - 20%-30% Distilled Water - 63%-77%
I included the Linen Spray because its interesting to note that the ratio of scent is similar to that of AS but look at the difference in Alcohol to Water.
As far as discussing things it makes sense to keep the opinions closed for a time and then I would like very much to discuss them on board, for as the saying goes "the devil is in the details" and it is usually in these discussions that the most small, seemingly insignificant "something or another" will be mentioned, that becomes one of those light bulb moments.
I worked long yesterday so I don't have to go back to Glade today....and just on a note, one Gent asked if I worked for Glade-Plug ins It was a good assumption and one I never thought of before, gave me a good laugh.
Just for fun...when I say I have to work my other job, this is where I go....

there ya go;
Business idea......RichZ's professional consulting service for Men's Skin Care.
I tried to talk Randy into it one time, but he wouldn't bite I even had a tag line for him....."If it's been Tested by Taylor; you know it's Good" ...LOL
I must say that Randy is one of the best tester's I've ever had....he really goes into a lot of detail about things I wouldn't have considered from the shaving aspect ( being a girl and all ..lol)
Randy maybe you could give some "testing tips"... Not to put you on the spot
