I also have Xpec and I will review it sooner or later. It is a good soap for sure but, in my opinion, MdC is better.

What a description you used for MdC fougère aroma! I guess you love Eau de Cologne smell! However, I too like Fougère smell and find it to be a sort of "my grandmother's touch" as she used to put a couple of drops of Eau de Cologne in her handkerchiefs as well as in ours. :-)

Yep, I know what you mean. I guess we all here know what you mean. Same for me: I have about thirty different soaps and creams (not to mention after shaves) and keep on telling I am not going to buy anything more. Well, I am sure you know how the story goes on: you keep on buying new soaps, creams, after shaves, pre-post shaves, razors, hones, strops...

    Razorguy,

Good show on your review. I consider Martin de Candre celestial.

By the way, gentlemen, Xpec is not a soap; it's a cream. Either way, it, too, is celestial.

Yes, you are absolutely right, it is a cream.

Many thanks to the OP for this superb review - succinct and to the point.I really like the original MdC and have it in the wooden bowl. I haven't tried the Fougere, but I have noticed a lot of noise over it (and not just on SRP!) lately. Maybe it's time I started to look for a sample... not that I need another soap or cream, just that I'm curious.I have to say though, no one does it quite like MdC. Not even those guys at XPEC (and yes, I've tried it!).

I broke down and ordered some original sent MdC from Jason's Shaving. Just got it in the mail this am and shaved with it! Wooow, this stuff is the best shaving cream I have used so far. It really does leave your face baby smooth with a glide my Cella and Coates and Arko does not have. Cannot beat Arko for the $ though. One dip of the brush and you can get three passes easy. This is the cat's a__ as far as a quality shave cream/soap. I am sold on this! My third lather was just to let it stay on. I did not rinse with cold water as usual,I used a towel to dry face as per instructions. I wish they made aftershave lotion! I do not mind paying more for a great quality product. I do hope it last for the $ though !

razorguy, thanks for the great review, I was wondering if you know if you have hard or soft water? Hard water tends to make soaps/creams harder to work with.

The city where I live, or better to say, where I spend most of my time, has an average water hardness of 28°f, corresponding to 280mg/l, in other words, a water considered to have a medium hardness.
While it is true hard water favors the formation of soap scums, therefore preventing the production of lather, most of the time a soap hard to mount is the consequence of an improper technique as well as quantity of soap used.
