Adding Glycerin to Shave Soap
i picked up some 99.9% pure Glycerin from CVS today and want to try adding it to my shave soap....I've heard it really helps with building a great lather, and makes the "slickness" on the skin better....
does anybody have any experience with this? from what I have read it seems like it can only help, it can't hurt anything....
I want to try it tonight on my Taylor Of Old Bond St Sandalwood shave soap....and perhaps my SRD Sandalwood shave soap as well...
anybody have any idea how much to use? I've heard anywhere from 2 to 3 drops, to a squirt haha any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks!

Boarder,
Be careful with your use of glycerin. Excessive amount will ruin your rather. I rarely uberlather, since I hold that quality soaps do not need to be spiked. The occasion that I encounter a low to moderate quality soap I add an almond size of cream — Institute Karite or Arko unscented — plus five drops of glycerin.

thanks! I'm thinking of starting with just a drop or 2 and work my way up slowly if necessary

I did use a couple drops a few years ago, but somehow found I didn't really need whatever it could provide to the soaps and creams I have.
As Obie says though, be careful with that stuff, too much is not a good thing imhoBjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Thanked: 177I have hard water here so certain soaps don't lather well or easily. I only use it when I have to and when I do its 2 drops max.

I am with the masses on this,
if you use to much it can leave your face sticky as well,
I started with 5-6 drops and now 2-3 is all I use when I use it.
I have hard water and it will help some soaps,
I have found I like to add 1 drop to my Nivea balm for post shave when I use it during the winter monthsIt is just Whisker Whacking
Relax and Enjoy!

Thanked: 1195As the others have stated, just a few drops will do. If you add too much glycerin it will actually suck the moisture out of your lather instead of improving it.

Ryan is 100% right, well according to the research I did anyway. I think I read that soaps cant contain more than about 20% glycerin for that reason.
I use a little bit, can't really say exactly how much, but it's about a third of a pump.

Thanked: 37I tried it, only one or two drops, on budget soaps like Williams or VDH. Ive also used glycerin 50/50 with grapessed oil as a pre-shave. Works great.
