Haslinger Schafmilch Raseirseife
"mit Schafmilch & Lanolin" This is a new soap for me and wow. I put my boars bristle against it and it very quickly loaded the brush and then worked it up in a lathering bowl to a rich thick creamy lather good enough for at least 5 passes. Very pleasant smell with good glide and cushioning. Also, it seems to love water. I'm thinking this might be better than MdC! A few more tests and we will see but right now this has been the best first impression ever out of over 60 soaps and cremes. Really nice soap. If you're sensitive to lanolin you will have to pass. Too bad.

I used to be a big fan of Haslinger. It's a generally very good soap. I don't think it's in the same ballpark as MDC. I've tried probably 3 or 4 of their varieties. I've used the seaweed and marigold and honey and something as I recall.

Have to agree with spendur, Haslinger is in the middle of the top tier but not quite in the same class with MdC or D.R. Harris. I'm not knocking it, it's a good soap - two scents are in my "sometimes" rotation.

I picked up the Honey, Aloe, Sage and SHeepsmilk late last week.
So far I have used the Honey (WOW!! I really like this one) and the sheepsmilk.
The sheepsmilk didnt wow me as much, but it still made a lovely rich lather, much easier to handle than MWF, and the shave was good.

Good point Barry, when MWF is right it is hard to beat at any price but it seems to be sensitive to water quality and some people have trouble with it. There are too many good soaps available that are easier to use to bother with it if you are one of those. Both of the Haslingers I've tried lathered easily and provide decent cushion and glide. Now I guess I have to try the Honey et al, sigh, here we go again!

I received this puck of Haslinger a while back in a PIF. It easily produced an excellent creamy, cushioning lather in my hard water. I loaded my brush from the puck for about 30 seconds (both were soaking while I showered) and had enough soap for a 3-pass shave . The scent is light and fresh. I guess it makes sense that they have it pretty well down after 120 years!

Gentlemen,
Haslinger is a good soap. I put it in the second tier of quality soaps. Better than the celestial Martin de Candre? I'm afraid not.

Well, after using this soap for a few more days, I have to say that my initial impressions are confirmed. This is an excellent soap and you should try it, unless you're sensitive to lanolin.

This soap is definitely one of my favorites. I tried MWF prior to buying a puck of Haslinger Scafmilch, and wish I had bought the Haslinger puck first. I also really like Haslinger Honig.

So, at this point I've now tried the Honey and the Meersalgen and, as would be expected I would confirm my original opinion. An excellent shaving soap and is definitely as good as or even better than MdC original. With both soaps a 15 to 20 second swirling of the brush produces excellent lather. Just the Salbei left to try now but I don't expect anything to change other than my personal impression of the scent (Sage).
