    Default Melting MB soaps

I asked this at the end of the other thread, but it wasn;t going anywhere, so maybe as a new threadd.

I received several of my new Mama Bear soaps as pucks in the white containers - I would really like to melt them down to be like the other "poured" soaps - can I stick this white container in the microwave, and blast it for very (say 5 second) bursts, to melt this puck or wil the plastic container blow up?

ALSO, how many of you just ut the lid on your soaps after using? In other words, is there a problem with closing the lid on teh soaps while they are still wet, or is that a recipe for mold or what not? Should the soaps be left open to dry before putting away?

    Thanks!

    K

    1) You can do 10 second bursts.
    2) I don't lid my soaps but I'd guess that you should give them a day or so before putting on the lids.

I wouldn't microwave it right in the container. I would do it in a class measuring cup if I were you. You also need to stir it a little bit as it cools. Or you will get some separation.

No you can not MB's bowl will take about 140 soap melts at about 160 I use a pyrex mesuring cup 10 second burst as stated above as it is cooling keep stiring every once in while to stop seperation and when you start to see alittle skin on the top you can pour it back.

I have some covered ceramic containers for shaving soap that I load with MB soaps, so I posed the same question directly to Sue (Mama Bear) one time.

    Her recommendation:
Cut the soap into little pieces and microwave it for short bursts (10 seconds) in a pyrex glass measuring cup and pour it into the container.

I cut it up like a pizza into six pieces, and give it a little stir with a popsicle stick between microwave bursts. That helps get it all liquified w/o overheating any of it.

Yes, you can melt her soaps directly in the plastic bowl in the microwave. I used 20% power for 1:10 so that it would just melt the soap without evaporating all of the FO or EO within it. Otherwise, use the double boiler melting process.

Never had a problem with closing the container after use. I usually let the soap & container sit open until I'm done shaving. After that, I close it up and store it.

Same here for the ones I leave in the original MB containers.

This might not be a future issue --- the last couple MB's I got look like they are poured into the containers.

Yeah, she took a vote over at B&B, a clear majority preferred having them poured instead of pucks.
