    Default soaps and creams

I tried the bigelow Premium shave cream and for me it doesn't work. can't seem to get the lather i'm use to. Guess I'll make lather with my cake of soap and add just a little of this to spice it up some. has anyone done this before. It's going to be interesting to see how it works.

I put some of Al's shaving cream with some Mama Bear's soap. There was an explosion and the next thing I knew there was lather all over the place :<0)

P.S. I had to shave 7 directions just to use up all the lather.

Yea, quite a few people combine soaps and creams. Just search "uberlather" on this site and you will get plenty of ideas for different combinations.

an explosion of lather is better than no lather and that's about what I got with the bigelow.

I sometimes combine Proraso sandlewood with MWF. It makes enough lather to shave a buffalo.

Are you using enough product? Too much/too little water?

In my experience, creams usually need surprisingly more water than you'd expect to get a good lather. My speculation about it is that what looks like a small amount of cream is more "product" than you would pick up on your brush from a hard cake of soap, and thus requires more water to lather it up.

Really don't know this is the first cream I have ever used. all my life I've used soap in a cake in a mug. wish there was a mens store local that I could go to and see what there was out there.

Here's how I lather Bigelow: put an almond-sized amount in a bowl, then work in with the brush until it is spread thin and into the brush and begins to feel "tacky" (dryish). Then I slop a generous palmful of water in there: it feels like way too much, and at first everything seems too wet. As I work the brush now, it goes from very wet w/ large bubbles, to runny w/ smaller bubbles, to thickish, to wonderfully whipped-cream like.
    Keep your pivot dry!
