    Default Another newbie question...

I ordered a tube of Proraso Sandalwood and Shea Butter shaving cream along with my new straight razor. Do I put some in the scuttle, and then use it as I would the hard soap I have used up until now? Thanks for all the help for this newbie folks! Two shaves under my belt so far...

You have a few options when using shaving cream. You can put a bit on the brush tips and lather up, spread a bit around your face and lather up or put a bit in a scuttle/bowl to build lather in it before spreading on your face.

I think that just about covers all the bases, assuming a scuttle is involved , there is always palm lathering, but its a bit messy.

Never understood palm lathering unless you needed to shave your palm. Fortunately I have a SWMBO so need of that.

For fear of this being misinterpreted after your last post bob, it keeps all the mess in your hand, i did it while i was on holiday recently, as i didnt have a bowl, i find when i face lather it creates quite a fall out zone while i get the lather to consistency, so a rough and dirty palm lather did the trick.

Never had a problem with a fall out zone while face lathering and don't really use bowls/scuttles either. I guess it does have it's uses though to counter those two problems.

With a scuttle and cream, I read on here somewhere that the thing to do was put an almond sized squirt in the scuttle (or bowl) and then whip up the lather with a wet brush, adding more water as you need to in order to build a good lather. With most creams, a little product goes a long way and takes more water than you might imagine.

That's the method I use, and it works great for me.
