Thanked: 0Shaving soap slickness
So I tried my straight for the first time today and the slickness just wasn't there. It seemed liked the razor had a bunch of drag across the skin it does the same thing when I use my shavette but seems slick when using me DE razor. Is it that my soap needs more water than with my DE?

A well formulated soap properly constituted is just that no matter what you use for shaving. using the straight for the first time can be many things to consider. Since you have the same issue with a shavette it more likely a technique issue with shaving I'm guessing. However the brand of soap you are using might give us clues.

New shaver - dragging = it's a skin tension/stretching thing..
If your skin/beard jumps or flutters while you make a WTG pass - it's tension you lack....Support Movember!

Thanked: 3225I have 4 different varieties of RR soaps and they are all good. Chances are it is not your soap itself so long as it is not too dry/pasty which causes the blade to skip for me. Like Spender and MJC suggest it might be a combination of getting the blade angle right and stretching your skin enough.

And getting your face good and damp before you apply the soap should help. I give my face a good minute of splashing with warm water before putting on my Williams puck soap lather and it works much better than just lathering up.
